HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A skydiver who was critically injured on Tuesday after losing consciousness during his jump and making a hard landing has died, according to the Honolulu Medical Examiner.

30-year-old Martin Monahan of Honolulu jumped from a plane over the Dillingham Airfield just before noon on Tuesday, but somehow lost consciousness and was unable to deploy his parachute.

Skydive Hawaii says Monahan's reserve chute automatically deployed at 1,000 feet, but he still hit the ground hard in a field around 300 yards away from the airfield, officials say.

Federal officials with the N.T.S.B. are investigating.
