Jamaica’s Mystic Davis has appeared in many music videos—alongside Beenie Man, Sean Kingston, and Nicki Minaj—but always as a dancer. With “Mystic Strings,” Ms. Davis combines her dance talent with some catchy MCing on an upbeat production courtesy of fellow Jamaican Dale “Dizzle” Virgo and UK native Troy Baker, known together as DizTroy. The styling of the video is stellar (Mystic’s outfits are covet-worthy) and anyone who has spent some time in lush Port Antonio, Jamaica will recognize the primary colors and foliage of the island’s most relaxed and laid back parish.

The lyrics of “Mystic Strings” are slightly inconsistent, but the warmth of the bass and the jangle of the guitar that sits on top makes up for it—not to mention Mystic’s infectious moves. It’s hard to take your eyes off her effortlessly unique style. The song, along with Mystic herself, is a dash hip-hop, with bits of reggae, dancehall, and (as one might say in Jamaica) a tups of house music. Off Mystic and DizTroy’s upcoming EP, “Mystic Strings” offers a necessary jolt of sunshine. It should help to keep things warm as summer gives way to the chill of fall.
