6-1, 326

Virginia Tech picked up a commitment on Wednesday night from Hutchinson Community College defensive tackle from Jaden Cunningham.

Cunningham, originally a Georgia native, picked the Hokies over Rutgers.  He is the 21st commitment of the 2019 recruiting class, and the fifth defensive tackle of the class.  He is the second JUCO defensive tackle of the class, joining DaShawn Crawford.

Cunningham is expected to contribute immediately on the defensive line for the Hokies, who lose Ricky Walker and Vinny Mihota to graduation.

  1. I’m happy to welcome these guys who have already been in the arena….they’ve already become accustomed to early workouts….managing classes….giving and taking some hits.

    JUCO love!!!! GO HOKIES!!!

  2. A Cunningham for a Cunningham. Good trade!
Welcome to the Hokie Nation. You are going to love coming out of that tunnel.
We the fans will make sure of it.

  3. Does he have the “twitch” that Charley Wiles likes from his DTs? IE, can he split a gap, beating the OL with quickness?

Or, do we change that DL philosophy a bit until we get high twitch guys? I’m ok with saying “Yeah, we’re going with some space eaters who will stuff the middle for a couple of seasons” if that will make the D better, but I’m just asking if that is the plan with this guy?

  4. CCW wears that stache pretty well. I’m picking up some Sam Elliot meets SOA vibes. Needs to lose the chin whiskers. It’s the stronger play.

  5. Good pick-up. Congrats all around, portal or no portal. Life is normal again, at least for tonight.
