Where to Order Coffee and Tea Online From Detroit Cafes

People are rightly taking precautions right now: They’re spending lots of time inside, avoiding large groups, and keeping good social distance from friends and loved ones. It’s the safe and responsible thing to do as the country works to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus pandemic. But, if you’re able, it’s still possible to support this effort while helping out your favorite local cafes.

Now is a golden opportunity to sip some strong roasts and blends at home by ordering from metro Detroit shops and coffee roasters. From coffee subscriptions to bag sales supporting some of Detroit’s best restaurants, here’s where to get some beans and leaves for brewing at home. Most importantly: The majority of these spots offer delivery and shipping in addition to carryout, so folks don’t even have to leave the house. For those looking for other ways to support their favorite baristas and cafes, nearly all of these businesses are fundraising for staff online and selling merch and gift cards through their websites.

Anthology Coffee: Fans of Anthology Coffee in Eastern Market can still find their favorite roasts online and through a subscription service for $22 a month. The shop is also hosting online classes by donation and offering bottles of Casamara Club amaro soda and 96-ounce containers of iced coffee to-go.

Populace Coffee: Buy bags of coffee and support the local restaurants you love at the same time. Along with its list of house roasts and subscriptions, the Bay City-based coffee company is selling its co-branded beans online and splitting the profits 50-50 with restaurants like Sister Pie and Rose’s Fine Food.

Hyperion Coffee: Ypsilanti-based roaster Hyperion Coffee is a popular supplier for metro Detroit cafes and restaurants. The roastery offers bags of coffee as well as weekly, bi-weekly, tri-weekly, and monthly mail-order subscriptions. Customers can also purchase equipment like Aeropress filters and kettles online.

Ashe Supply Co.: Now owned by the team behind Ferndale Project and Eastern Market Brewing Co., Ashe Supply Co. is selling $20 monthly subscriptions as well as canned cold brew and bags of whole bean coffee for curbside pickup and delivery.

Eli Tea Bar: Eli Tea is currently closed for carryout service, but this Birmingham-based shop is still selling its special selection of blended loose leaf teas and equipment online for shipping. Purchase tins of Thai chai, Green Green Ginger, and pouches of organic matcha.

Astro Coffee: Popular Corktown cafe and Core City roastery Astro Coffee is closed for business at the moment, but people willing to purchase five pounds or more of beans can receive a free delivery within Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. Contact Astro for more information.

Socratea: This little Midtown-area tea shop is still shipping out orders of loose tea weekly. Pick from options like the chili chocolate house blend or China silver needle.

Dessert Oasis Coffee Roasters: This local roaster is currently open for limited carryout and curbside pickup service. Customers can place orders for bags of beans, brewing equipment, vanilla bean syrup, and even cheesecakes online.

The Rendezvous With Tea: Tea sommelier Nazreen Gibson is continuing to sell her teas and equipment for delivery. Customers can explore the selection of tea and equipment online and place an order by calling 313-322-0787 or email ngibson@trwtea.com.

Atomic Coffee: Royal Oak’s Atomic Coffee is temporarily closed but the cafe is still selling bags of house blend coffee and $250 annual subscriptions through its online store.

Narrow Way Cafe: This Avenue of Fashion cafe is selling its special roasts of Zingerman’s coffee beans online for $13 a bag.

Bikes & Coffee: Purchase bags of Hyperion Coffee through this Woodbridge neighborhood cafe and bike shop. Bikes & Coffee features several different roasts for $18 per bag.

Qahwah House: This Yemeni cafe in Dearborn sells its special imported beans and blends as well as cardamom online for $26 to $35 per bag.

Madcap Coffee: Grand Rapids roastery and coffee bar chain Madcap is still open and accepting online orders for pickup at its shops. Customers can also purchase coffee subscriptions and order small or bulk bags of coffee through the company’s online store.

New Order Coffee: This small batch roaster is shipping out bags of coffee daily. If you’re a pod person, they have Kcups too. There’s also plenty of brewing equipment for sale in the online shop for people who just can’t live without a pour over.

Germack Coffee: Germack Coffee Roasting Co. in Eastern Market sells bags of coffee online as well as brewing equipment and even green coffee beans.

Great Lakes Coffee Company: Metro Detroit roaster Great Lakes sells bags of beans online and at many grocery stores around the region. The online shop also features coffee subscriptions and bundles of brewing gear.
