Breaking More Records at the Port of Davisville
For the seventh time in eight years, Quonset's Port of Davisville had a record-breaking year for auto imports. In 2018, a total of 241,851 vehicles arrived at Davisville by ship, an 8.7% increase from 2017. An additional 38,536 arrived by rail and truck last year.

The Port of Davisville, Rhode Island's only public port, is consistently recognized as one of the Top Ten Auto Importers in North America. The Port has seen unprecedented growth in the last two decades and now handles a volume of vehicle imports nearly seven times greater than what was imported in 1996.

"We are glad to announce another year of growth at the Port of Davisville," said Port Director Bob Blackburn. "The new record reflects our commitment to continue this momentum with the upcoming improvements to Pier 2, the 'workhouse' of the Port, and continued support from the Quonset Development Corporation."

The record-breaking was not the only progress at the Port in 2018. U.S. Sen. Jack Reed announced last year that the Port of Davisville was chosen to join a new maritime highway initiative and awarded an $855,200 federal grant in August 2018 to facilitate the purchase of new shipyard equipment. The updated equipment will ease cargo-handling operations and support the Port's new role in the marine highway initiative.

Quonset Express - A New Mode of Transportation to the Business Park
Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) has partnered with the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) to offer a new express transit line directly into Quonset Business Park for people who work here. Quonset Express will make the Business Park more accessible to Quonset employees and potential new workers.

"This new partnership between RIPTA and the QDC is an exciting development for Quonset Business Park," said QDC Managing Director Steven King. "Quonset Express will remove cars from the roads, while also making Quonset Business Park more accessible to current workers and new employees."

The new route will include two early pickups from Kennedy Plaza to accommodate opening shifts at Quonset businesses, with stops at Ocean State Job Lot, Kiefer Park, Toray Plastics, Senesco and Electric Boat.

The pilot bus service launches January 22 and offers reliable transportation directly to Quonset Business Park for our nearly 12,000 workers. Funding for the new express service was provided by an $80,000 Federal Highway Administration Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) grant and an additional 20% match of $20,000 from the QDC.

Reflecting on a Successful 2018
Currently home to over 200 companies providing nearly 12,000 full and part-time jobs in Rhode Island, Quonset Business Park saw significant growth in 2018 with investments in essential infrastructure and construction of new company facilities.

"Quonset Development Corporation (QDC) is pleased to close out another successful year," said QDC Managing Director Steven J. King. "Quonset remains committed to fostering an environment for current and potential companies' success by investing in the highest quality infrastructure."

In 2018, $56 million was invested in infrastructure projects throughout the Park, including transportation upgrades, wastewater treatment facility improvements and further office space for companies.

The QDC saw $340 million in private investment last year, a significant increase from 2017. The increase was spurred by new arrival Infinity Meat Solutions' $100 million investment in a new state-of-the-art facility and Electric Boat's ongoing expansion to their existing Quonset facility. These large private investments contributed to the construction of over 650,000 square feet of new structures at the Park in 2018.

The QDC will welcome new businesses to the Business Park in 2019, including Lincoln Manufacturing and Agilent, among others. Quonset strives to continue leading the charge in Rhode Island's economic development and job growth and hopes to build on the successes of 2018 by continuing to provide a climate for businesses to thrive.
