Circle Up Screening on December 10th at UTEC

Victims of crime are given a powerful voice when practicing restorative justice. They meet their offenders face to face, in a safe and structured environment, and tell them exactly how the incident made them feel. It can allow the victim to ask questions and sometimes even receive an apology. Restorative justice is a proven way to reduce the impact of crime in communities, allowing people to feel safer.

On Monday, December 10th from 5:00 – 8:30 pm at UTEC, THRIVE Communities will be presenting Circle Up, a documentary that tells the story of Janet Connors, who reaches out to her teenage son’s killer to offer a chance of forgiveness. It is a call to action for reframing approaches to crime and punishment through the lens of restorative justice, forgiveness, and accountability.

The free screening will be followed by a discussion facilitated by Center for Hope and Healing, Communities for Restorative Justice, Recovery Cafe Lowell, UTEC, and YouthBuild of Greater Lowell.
