FABB is asking local riders and concerned citizens to participate in a virtual Location & Design Public Hearing for the 495 Express Lanes Northern Extension project. The meeting is on Monday, October 5, 2020, at 7:00 pm.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will use the meeting to present the environmental assessment and draft design plans to extend the 495 Express Lanes by approximately three miles from the Dulles Toll Road interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway in the vicinity of the American Legion Bridge. The project’s goals are to reduce congestion, improve safety and travel reliability, and provide additional travel choices. The project includes bicycle and pedestrian facilities that will link nearby areas with roads and bike lanes leading into and from Tysons.
This is a great opportunity to share your ideas on how to maximize the utility and safety of the planned addition of bicycle and pedestrian facilities. As it has during earlier meetings, FABB intends to request that VDOT and Fairfax County focus on improving facilities that will link the 495 NEXT path to Tysons. This includes more separated bike lanes, regular bike lanes, or at least sharrows in an around Tysons, improved access underneath the Dulles Toll Road into Tysons, upgraded traffic signals, and adequate wayfinding signage.
