29 Reasons to Start a Blog Today

I love me a good blog. As a blog reader, and as a blog writer, blogs make my world go round. This weekend, as you peruse your favorites online, think about finally getting out there and starting your own.

Here are 29 reasons why:

  1. You hate this blog post, and you know you could do better.
  2. You want a place to express your feelings, but your Moleskine is full.
  3. You read it's possible to write your way to better decisions, and you gotta start somewhere.
  4. You're a great typer, and are in desperate need of an outlet for your skills.
  5. You have a wonderful product you want to promote.
  6. You read this free ebook on how to set up a blog, and you figured you might as well follow the instructions laid out.
  7. You're a leader, and you heard somewhere that every leader needs a blog.
  8. You have an idea you want to share with the world.
  9. You found a great blog you love (or five), and are convinced you can emulate it.
  10. You are building a movement, and want an online presence to help you.
  11. You want to connect with like-minded individuals.
  12. You are writing a book, and hear that one of the best ways to promote that book is my building an online audience.
  13. You need a place to provide a running narrative of your incessant selfies.
  14. You have all these thoughts in your head and no one to share them with.
  15. You want to practice the art of free-writing.
  16. You are an artist, and want to share some of your work with those outside your community.
  17. You want to record your daily work-outs in a public space.
  18. Your roommate told you to.
  19. You dream of being a mommy blogger, and you already have a child.
  20. You have great bandwidth. (The Internet kind.)
  21. There are no good blogs about organic chicken feed. You know you can change that.
  22. You need something to do to multitask when Law and Order plays in the background.
  23. You have a passion for a particular nonprofit or charity, and you want to share that with the world.
  24. Your mom has one.
  25. You get up at 5 AM, but don't know why.
  26. They are free. (Or cheap.) Depending on what kind you want.
  27. You have lots of free time, and not more sweaters to knit.
  28. You tried unplugging this weekend, but it didn't work.
  29. It's Sunday, and Sundays are good days to start blogs.

So go ahead, do it. Your future self might just thank you.
