Portland could hit 100 degrees: Fountains, splash pads, ways to stay cool

Portland is heating up.

Expect to be hot this weekend as temperatures are predicted to hit 100 degrees in the metro area. An excessive heat watch is in effect as the record-setting heat wave begins Friday with highs predicted to reach 90, and jumping another 10 degrees Saturday and Sunday under mostly sunny skies.

But, no worries, the metro area has plenty of places to keep cool.

Take a look at the map below to find where you should head this weekend to avoid the heat. It's early in the season, so make sure to call to confirm outdoor pools and fountains are open for business.

As Portland isn't new to impending hot temperatures, The Oregonian/OregonLive has plenty of resources to help you plan your weekend around the weather.

Check out the Hood River Waterfront Park for watersports like windsurfing, kiteboarding and paddling. There are also plenty of swimming holes and lakes to dip into.

Here are a few stories from the past couple of years to help you find your destination.

The City of Portland is also a good resource for things to do.

But if all else fails and even your sprinkler doesn't work, restaurants and movie theaters are indoor destinations with air conditioning.

We have you covered there, too, with our guide to Portland's top 101 restaurants. Plus, try a few of these summer recipes to help beat the heat.
