Professor Mike Capra the inaugural Chair of the Australian OHS Education Accreditation Board (AOHSEAB) has stepped down from the role after seven years.

Patrick Murphy, Chair of the Board for the Safety Institute of Australia (SIA) sincerely thanked Mike for his service to the AOHSEAB. “Mike has made a significant contribution to the standard and quality of OHS education at the tertiary level.  His work as Chair is well regarded within the industry and he has cemented the role of AOHSEAB since its Inauguration.  On behalf of the SIA I wish Mike well in his future endeavours.”

Angela Seidel
Ms Angela Seidel, one of the inaugural members of the Accreditation Board has been elected as the new Chair. Angela has more than ten years of board level experience across the commercial and not for profit sectors and more than 20 years in Safety Leadership. She is currently the National Risk Manager for Lifestyle Solutions.


Associate Professor Sue Reed has recently re-joined the Board as an academic member and has been elected to the role of Deputy Chair. Sue is currently Director, Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety, School of Medical & Health Sciences, Edith Cowan University. She has over 38 years’ experience as an academic, researcher and practitioner in the field of occupational health and safety, specifically in the field of occupational and environmental hygiene. Sue is a past President of the AIOH.

In welcoming Angela and Sue to their new roles on the Accreditation Board, Patrick Murphy, chair of the Safety Institute of Australia, acknowledged that the role of AOHSEAB is vitally important to the future direction of OHS education and the SIA has been proud to auspice the AOHSEAB since its inception. “I would like to congratulate Angela Seidel and Sue Reed as the new Chair and Deputy of the Board.  The SIA looks forward to continuing to work with them to advance OHS education within Australia.”

The Accreditation Board has broad representation from OHS professionals, OHS academics, OHS professional bodies including the Safety Institute of Australia (SIA), Australian Institute of Occupational Hygiene (AIOH), Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HFESA), Australian New Zealand Society for Occupational Medicine (ANZSOM) and the Australian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM). It also has representation from the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), employers and regulators. The Board benefits from the membership of an education advisor.
