Strong wind gusts and thunderstorms expected to hit Toronto

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Toronto this evening, as strong winds and thunderstorms are expected.

According to the statement, “gusty showers” and thunderstorms are expected to strike in many areas across the Toronto region this evening.

The storms are forecast to move eastward across the city, bringing wind gusts of 70 km/h, moments of torrential downpours, and “cloud-to-ground” lightning.

The Weather Network calls for a strong thunderstorm due to a cold front arriving later in the day and the mix of warmth and humidity.

“Based on computer models, a brief tornado along the front can’t be ruled out, especially with low-level wind shear forecast to be favourable for the potential,” said TWN.

Environment Canada is closely following the situation as it unfolds.
