How to Apply Fake Tan

In this cool Scottish climate its lucky we can always bring a little sunshine in to our life’s. When the suns away (far too often) we can turn to the bottle, no not the Gin, but a little bottle of goodness to help boost the self-confidence. (still not talking about the gin) yup it’s the Fake tan bottle. The trick to achieving the perfect tan is to make it look like a beautiful natural colour. No one should be able to guess it came from a bottle. This means no streaks, patches or orange hands. When someone asks if you have been away on your hols because it looks so damm natural. That!

How to Fake Tan – PREP

There Are Three Main Steps to Achieving the Perfect Tan;

Prep, Application & Aftercare.

In this 1st section we will look at the best hint, tips & tricks in preparing for the perfect tan. Whether it’s for a self-tan at home. Or, a beautiful spray tan (at home by beautyrokz ayrshire). The principals for the prep and aftercare are the same. Follow this guide and the three to come, and, you will be well on your way to achieving that super sexy, glowing perfect tan.
Preparation Is the Key to Success
  • Find Best Fake Tan…. For You.

Whenever you start using a new skin care product, test it Wait 12hrs to see if you have any kind of reaction. Almost all tanning products, regardless of price, use DHA to turn the skin tan. The HIGHER the concentration, the DARKER your skin will be. Use a tan with a low DHA% & plenty of moisturizer to give your skin a natural glow with a nice reflected sheen. Don’t use any old fake tan hanging around in your cupboard. It oxidises & changes colour once opened within a couple of months.
  • Hair Removal
Always perform any hair removal (waxing, shaving, etc.) at least 8 hours before applying your tan. A full day prior doing your fake tan is best. This way your skin won’t be too sensitized & reactive to the tanning solution. Smooth skin = best results
  • Vaseline Is Your Friend
If you’re going to have a manicure / pedicure for special occasion, get it done 1st. Then a light layer of Vaseline prior to tan application protects it. Dotting a small amount of Vaseline to the eyebrows & hairline prevents dodgy tide marks appearing. It creates barrier to stop tan sticking to these areas. This is important if your hair is very light
  • Avoid
Using oil-based products for a few days before self-tanning. They can leave traces, the oil can sit on the skin and this creates a barrier, which causes streaking.
  • Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!!
Removing dead skin cells before tanning is vital. It will help prevent splotching & uneven colouration. Use a natural body scrub or other type of exfoliating tool to scrub your entire body. I find, the exfoliating tan eraser mitt works best as you can get in every nook n cranny. A body scrub with sea salt or other exfoliating products also provides the great results.

  • Moisturize (lock in the tan)

Most common cause of patchy tan. DRY SKIN it’s crucial to moisturize problem areas prior to self-tan application. Wrists, hands, ankles & feet are often prone to dryness. Make sure you polish & moisturise them well to ensure an even tan. Don’t over scrub, but do pay extra attention to knees, ankles, feet, elbows, & neck. Self-tanners grab on to dry surface skin cells.
  • Close Those Pores
A cold (or colder) shower prior to tanning will close the pores and this will ensure that you get an even flawless tan. Rubbing ice on the face before applying fake tan closes your pores. It will help the tan application to look great.
  • Exfoliate Again
So Important It Needs to Be Mentioned Twice. Smooth Skin Means Easy Application Means Beautiful Results.
