McDonald’s new corporate digs isn't the only new project headed to the corner of Washington and Carpenter in Chicago’s West Loop as demolition began today at 1045 W. Washington. The site — formerly a single-story auto garage and parking lot -- was first rumored for redevelopment last year with both Belgravia Realty Group and Sterling Bay reportedly pursuing the site. Belgravia ultimately came out on top and announced plans to bolster its "CA" branded portfolio of condominiums. Dubbed CA Washington, the proposed six-story structure will be comprised exclusively of three-bedroom, three-bathroom units starting in the mid $800K price range.
"CA Washington is the fifth project in the CA family of developments", explains Brooke Epley of Belgravia Realty Group, "and they always sell out before they are completed." So far, sales have indeed been very strong with only 18 of the building’s 70 units still available, according to Epley. "It’s a great location close to the Loop and Chicago’s best restaurants and is part of an excellent school district."
With a fresh demo permit in hand, crews wasted little time converting the former A&A Automobile Services building to rubble. According to a sign on site, the long-time Chicago auto mechanics have set up shop at a new home located roughly a half-mile north at 448 N. May Street.
The new Sullivan Goulette & Wilson-designed condo development will contain 78 parking spaces and will forgo any ground level retail. It is expected to begin delivering its roughly 2,100-square-foot, family-friendly units in the fall of 2017.
