BERLIN — Family members say the body of a Berlin man missing since Sunday has been found.
Robert “Zip” Valliere, 68, went out for a walk Sunday around 5 p.m. in Berlin and did not return. Police and K-9 units searched through the night.
In social media posts, family members revealed Valliere has Parkinson’s disease and early onset dementia.
On Monday Valliere’s daughter, Melanie Valliere Ryll, posted on Facebook that her father’s body had been found.
“It is with (incredible) sadness and shock to share that my father’s body has been recovered,” writes Ryll. “If you knew Zip, you loved him. It is absolutely surreal and heartbreaking. He was everything to me and my Mom.”
Ryll thanked residents of Berlin and surrounding towns, family and friends, Berlin police, New Hampshire state troopers and Fish & Game for their assistance in locating her father.
Lt. Mark W. Ober with the New Hampshire Fish and Game department confirmed conservation officers located Valliere’s body around 2:15 p.m. Monday along the Dead River near the Notre Dame Arena.
Ober said Valliere was suffering from early-onset dementia, but was still physically active and enjoyed going on walks, and had mentioned wanting to go fishing prior to his disappearance.
Ober said it is too soon to determine the cause of death and the body was transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Concord, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
