Farmers have until next Monday 31 October to have their farmyard manure (FYM) spread.

As and from 1 November, farmers cannot spread FYM on their land.

Despite the dry and settled period over past two weeks, there has still been no movement by the Government to extend the slurry deadline.

It is only in the past two weeks that ground has dried sufficiently in parts of the west to be able to carry machines to get slurry out.

Any farmer who needs to spread and cannot is urged to contact the Department of Agriculture.

Animal welfare

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that about 20 farmers have availed of an extension to the slurry deadline on animal welfare grounds.
