Woman, 19, dead in Pickering crash; two injured

A 19-year-old woman is dead and two other people are injured after a crash involving a car and a dump truck in Pickering.

The crash happened on Bayly Street near Liverpool Road just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

Durham police said that according to witnesses, the Pickering woman, who was behind the wheel, was on Bayly when her Acura was struck by the driver of an International dump truck.

Police are not releasing her name at this time.

A 23-year-old man, a passenger in the car, suffered life-threatening injuries and was first transported to Rouge Valley Hospital and then airlifted to a trauma centre in Toronto. Another passenger, a 23-year-old woman, was rushed by ambulance to a Toronto hospital.

The dump truck driver, a 50-year-old man from Whitby, was not injured in the crash.

It is not yet known if any charges will be laid.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
