Starz released the first trailer for their upcoming series “American Gods” at Friday’s Comic-Con panel. The series is based on the best-selling novel by Neil Gaiman, which mixes the concepts of old gods of traditional mythology and new gods that have risen as society has changed.

Although not present in the trailer, Kristin Chenoweth joined the panel onstage as it was announced that she will be joining “American Gods” in the role of Easter. Chenoweth previously worked with showrunner Bryan Fuller on “Pushing Daisies.”

The trailer gives viewers a first look at troubled protagonist Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and the engimatic Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). Shadow has been released from a three-year prison sentence and learns that his wife has died. He meets Mr. Wednesday on a plane on his way back home for the funeral. We also get glimpses of Shadow’s apparently not-so-dead-wife Laura Moon (Emily Browning).

Also featured in the trailer are Mad Sweeney (Pablo Shreiber), Mr. World (Crispin Glover), Czernobog (Peter Stormare) and Zorya Vechernyaya (Cloris Leachman).
