July 11th, 2013 - for immediate release
Pasadena, CA. The list of record-breaking motion pictures with AEA involvement just keeps growing. 'Despicable Me 2' blew away all expectations last weekend with a massive $142.1 million in US box office sales. It had already broken the record in UK opening weekend sales a week earlier obliterating 'Man of Steel' (which features the AEA R44C on solo violin). Award-winning recording and mixing engineer, Alan Meyerson (Transformers, The Dark Knight, Shrek, and many more) chose AEA R44C and KU4 microphones, and AEA TRP preamps to capture the lively horn section for 'Despicable Me 2', recorded at the Fox Studios scoring stage.
Meyerson selected the KU4 Unidirectional microphone to capture the horn section as a whole, where as AEA R44C, Coles 4038, and vintage RCA 44-BX microphones were used for individual horn spot mics. AEA's R44 microphones are known for their faithful replication of the iconic RCA model and can easily be mixed with vintage microphones. The KU4 model has built a reputation as a legacy to the classic RCA KU3A (MI-10001) that features a unique supercardioid pattern. RCA Photophone originally built only about 600 units of the now rare KU3A microphones, which were designed for the Hollywood film industry in the 1950s. AEA is delighted at its expanding role in movie sound at scoring stages around the world.
