I have always wanted to try this place. I always drive by and it looks so cute! The service was lovely. Our waitress was very attentive, food came out quick and so did our specialty coffees! Did I mention they have outdoor seating? What more could you ask for?!
The chicken salad sandwich was yummy and my friend liked her fried egg sandwich. We both tried the lavender vanilla lattes. They also have milk alternatives.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 9581364727Jan 24, 2024Updated review
We have the good fortune of traveling to Louisville a few times a year. Blue Dog is a must-visit during our travels. This place is simply top-notch. Their koughin aman is the best I've ever had in the US.
Their Sourdough is legitimately outstanding, and we always indulge in their almond croissants and pain au chocolat. Although we do our best to limit our sugar consumption, when you are presented with high-quality creations, there is no choice but to give in to temptation.
Typically, I rise early on Friday morning and make the trip down to BDG&C. It is best to pick up their stuff freshly baked, and there is always the risk that they will run out.
As I write this review and think about Blue Dog, I am already planning my next visit. Can't wait to go back and enjoy it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 23, 2023Previous reviewArguably, the best bakery in Kentucky. Their Kouighn amans are beyond category. Simply amazing.

My husband and I stopped by on a weekend morning around 11. While busy, you can tell it's a well oiled machine because the staff were amazing, helpful, and enthusiastic about our experience and what the bakery had to offer. We sat inside at the window since it was chilly out. Can't wait to go back.
The egg in a baskets were delicious and our iced coffees were fresh and delicious. Very well brewed.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2233581260Apr 10, 2024
Awesome local cafe. Nice selection of cookies, pastries, muffins and breakfast items. Lots of fresh made bread too. We just stopped in to grab coffees and treats but you can sit down and order from the cafe too. They are closed on Sundays.

Great breakfast/brunch spot! Bread and pastries baked daily. It's a small space and it's usually busy but the wait is never too long. Stop by for a coffee and pastry to go or grab a table for dine in.

Blue Dog Bakery & Cafe was one of the local spots we discovered through Yelp when visiting Louisville. A highly rated bakery that did not disappoint. We purchased several of their baked goods to snack on our roadtrip. Too bad that they did not have any Kouign Amann left that morning because I would have loved to try their version of my favorite European pastry. Here is a list of what my wife and I shared:
Pistachio Orange Schnecken. Never heard of a schnecken before, but it tasted great!!
Blueberry Ginger Scone. I'm not a fan of scones, but wifey wanted to try it. She liked it, and I thought it tasted okay.
Chocolate Croissant. This was one of the best Chocolate Croissants I've ever tasted anywhere in the world! 5 stars!!!
Peanut Butter Cookie. Had this the next day. It was still DELICIOUS!! 5 stars!
Chocolate Pecan cookie. We also ate this the following day. It was very yummy as well. 5 stars!!!
Pecan Maple Morning Bun. Another 5 star winner in my book!!
With the exception of the scone, I thought everything we ate was awesome! Did not try any of their sandwiches or other cafe food. If we ever return to Louisville, then we will have to return to Blue Dog. Charming place.Helpful 4Thanks 2Love this 8Oh no 0 - Dec 28, 2023
Great pastries and fresh made bread. Cute cozy spot to meet up with friends and family. Located in St Mathew's area so nice to walk around the neighborhoods after. I had a cappuccino and the flavor of the coffee was ok. Not that strong considering they made it with Espresso. They didn't offer to heat up the pastries either and their drip coffee pot was broke. Good place, but if they cleaned up a couple of area of the business it could be much better. The staff was very nice and friendly.

We finally went to Blue Dog! After seeing their name on the menus of so many of our favorite restaurants as a bread supplier, we were happy to officially visit the source.
We stopped by to grab a quick bite before a day of activities. They do not start serving full menu brealfast until 9:00 AM (which seems a bit late) but we were looking for more of a pastry and coffee fill to start our day, so it was perfect. Out of their exquistiely lined case up front, we were able to decide with our eyes which is always fun. The decision was challenging as everything looked so fresh and scrumptious.
I had the fresh berries and pastry cream filled that had a captivating passionfruit glaze and my partner had the ham and gruyere (a savory yummmm!). We were both suprised that such delicately flaky pastries packed such hefty portions of filling and left us feeling satisfied. Specifically, way more delicious ham in every bite than we anticipated. We also grabbed a coffee to share.
We ate on the patio which gives a very European flair to the experience. My only flaw in our visit really had nothing to do with the space itself nor the delightful food, instead I do want to share a note on what I imagine to be regular patrons and the staff- to an "outsider", the atmosphere can feel a bit pretentious at times. But over all, we'll be back for quick bites.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 3165231Jun 30, 2023
Blue Dog Bakery is a European style bakery on Frankfort avenue. In addition to breads and pastries, they serve breakfast and lunch. Many other local restaurants feature Blue Dog Bakery bread on their own menus.
Blue Dog offers a small front patio on the side of Frankfort Avenue, a small indoor dining section, and a shop for pickup orders and other purchases. It has an eclectic crowd, today there was a street musician playing out front; I've seen a famous author enjoying a beverage at one of their cafe tables.
Today my order was the following-
PASTRAMI REUBEN
with Gruyère, sauerkraut, & 1000 Island, grilled on levain
TURKEY & SWISS
with Granny Smith apples, bacon, & tarragon mayo on Cereal bread
WHEATBERRY SALAD for sides on both
These are tried-and-true favorites that have been on their menu for years, so it was no surprise that I got exactly what I was looking for. This is the perfect spot to stop for lunch. The service is friendly and professional. Everything is fresh, it's local, it's reasonably priced, and it is unlike any other place in Louisville.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
