Hot Shooting Lifts Tritons Past Dominican in West Region Quarterfinal, 81-58

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Senior guard Joleen Yang made six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to lift the No. 2-ranked University of California San Diego women's basketball team to an emphatic victory over Dominican, 81-58, in the NCAA West Region quarterfinal at RIMAC Arena.

With the win, UC San Diego (30-0) advances to Saturday's west region semifinal beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Junior forward Haleigh Hatfield scored 18 points with 10 rebounds, as the Tritons outscored the Penguins by 15 in the second quarter to take a 42-22 lead into intermission. UC San Diego was even sharper coming out of the break, scoring 31 points in the third period to take a commanding 73-37 heading into the fourth.

Dominican senior Natalie Diaz, the nation's leading scorer, finished with 14 points and five rebounds to lead the Penguins. 

Senior guard Kayla Sato added 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Tritons, while Mikayla Williams finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds. UC San Diego made a program-record 15 3-point field goals as a team.
