The Perfect Paleo Powder Review + Protein Breakfast Cookies

Please share:

Switching to a paleo diet really came out of the need to help our son manage his energy better at school. Cutting out grains, refined sugars, dairy, and artificial stuff really made a difference in how he acted both in class and at home.

Now, three years on, we see that any small breaks from the diet can throw him off a bit, so we’re quick to get back on track. He’s a skinny kid with loads of energy, always running around, which makes it tough to get him to sit down and eat properly. This led us to look for ways to boost his intake of protein and calories to keep up with him.

The first taste test was promising—even mixed with water, which usually isn’t great, it was quite palatable. It’s even better in almond milk, and everybody in the house liked it. We’ve also started adding it to different recipes, not just drinks. It goes great in smoothies and I’ve even whipped up some breakfast cookies with it. The kids get a kick out of the fact that they’re eating cookies for breakfast, but I know they’re getting good stuff.

One day, while walking through Trader Joe’s, I stumbled upon a chocolate hemp protein powder made with just cocoa, hemp, and coconut sugar. It seemed like a good fit for him, though he was only lukewarm about it at first, liking it better when mixed with almond milk. I even tried making my own version at home, but I just couldn’t get past the strong hemp taste.

Then we got to try out The Perfect Paleo Powder. It was impressive right off the bat with its all-natural ingredients and no synthetic stuff, refined sugars, or dairy — which is great because we steer clear of dairy. Plus, it packs a good dose of vitamin B12.

This powder has really found its way into our daily routine, making it easier to keep everyone’s energy up and still stick to our dietary goals.

Protein Breakfast Cookies {grain-free, egg-free, dairy-free} by Our Paleo Life

Protein Breakfast Cookies {grain-free, egg-free, dairy-free}

Yield: 18 cookies
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes

These breakfast cookies are our favorite way to eat in the mornings when we're running late and rushing out the door. Hearty enough to fill bellies and packed with protein and everything we need to start the day.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe Bananas, the riper the sweeter your cookies will be
  • 1 Tbsp Maple Syrup, optional
  • 1 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Almonds
  • 1/2 cup Pumpkin Seeds
  • 1/2 cup Cashews
  • 1/2 cup Walnuts
  • 4 scoops Perfect Paleo Protein Powder
  • 1 1/3 cup Unsweetened Shredded Coconut
  • 3/4 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
  • 3/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Raisins, we love golden raisins in these cookies

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mash the bananas with a fork until mostly smooth and sort of liquidy. Stir in maple syrup and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  3. In a blender or food processor, add almonds, cashews, and walnuts. Pulse just enough to coarsely chop them, you want some largish pieces.
  4. Add the mashed bananas, Perfect Paleo Powder, pumpkin seeds, shredded coconut, ginger, chia seeds, salt, and raisins. Pulse a couple times to combine. You can finish combining with a spoon or spatula so you don't chop up everything.
  5. Using 2 spoons or a large cookie/ice cream scoop, drop approximately 3 Tbsp of dough onto prepared cookie sheet, 2" apart. Slightly flatten with the back of a spoon or dampened fingers. They will not spread while baking.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until mostly set in the middle. Remove cookies from baking sheet and let cool on a wire rack. They will still be soft and easy to break but will firm up as they cool.
  7. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.

Hi, they changed the formula. Am about to ????. He added natural flavors and ingredients you can’t pronounce. I still can’t find anything close. I think he added coffee extract

Yes, the formula was just changed (I think around November). The ingredient list still looks pretty good to me. Also, I didn't see coffee extract in any of the varieties. I think I'd go with the Digest and Rest (https://clovisculture.com/digest-rest/paleo-digest-and-rest.html) as a replacement for the old formula in this recipe because it's not meant as a post-workout and it has an added ingredient for gut health (the Bacillus coagulans).

@Melissa, I'm sure it would be fine.

I'd love to try the Paleo powder but do have some whey grass fed protein powder on hand. May I substitute? Thanks!
