Ryan Farr plays a trick on his teammates

Ryan Farr is a senior for the Florida Gators. He’s played in 38 games during his time in Gainesville, earning three letters in three years. He even added a couple of tackles to his résumé during his junior season in 2018.

Still, as the long snapper, he can go unnoticed when walking around town or campus. it’s a level of anonymity that some of his teammates might like to have.

Farr tested that anonymity out on his teammates during Florida’s fan day Sunday with hilarious results.

“It was awesome. Went undercover, under the name of Jeff, and got some signatures from the guys,” Farr said of the ruse. “Most of them didn’t catch on until the very end.”

The idea came from Randy Mickens (Florida’s football videographer) who thought it would be funny to have Farr dress up in various disguises and ask his teammates for autographs. The Chicago Bears recently had NFL journeyman and former Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel do something similar at their training camp.

“I kind of do just look like an average Joe so it kind of would pay off,” Farr said. “If it was I don’t know (Jeremiah) Moon going around it’d be pretty obvious that like he is not just a fan. But yeah, it was a lot of fun.”

Farr is from Nevada and was rated a five star snapper by Rubio Long Snapping. He’s been a consistent and reliable long snapper for the Gators, which is another reason you don’t hear about him too much. Snappers really only get into the spot light for bad snaps and Farr doesn’t have many of those to his name. He also has a great sense of humor. Farr picked the name “Jeff” based off of this scene from the movie 22 Jump Street.

As far as how the ruse went for Farr, most of his teammates caught on eventually.

“I know all the guys, but they all know I mess around so I was just kind of keeping my head low and just having some fun with it,” he said. “You gotta have a little bit of fun during camp, especially my last time around.”

To Farr’s surprise he even had someone ask for him at the specialists table, so he wasn’t completely anonymous at Fan Day.

“The other thing they brought up was like nobody’s going to miss your signature,” he said jokingly. “So I was like yeah that’s true, that works. I did hear from the specialists like one person came asking about me so I got one fan out there. Shout out to him.”

A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
