Exactly what you'd expect upon walking up, an ideal pool hall and dive bar. That said, the food is phenomenal and folks behind the bar are helpful! Great prices and food. Won't be our last time. Especially since you can't beat the free entertainment aka people watching!

The back door has always been such a cool vibe when coming to Louisville. Great location to Bardstown and so diverse. The food is good and there's always good company. I visit pretty often and we always find ourselves back here drinking, playing pool, and just having a good time. Parmesan garlic wings are always a fav. Def will be back

I hadn't stepped into the Back Door in quite a few years. But, I had heard good things about their wings lately, and that is what I was craving. Traditional, Buffalo style wings. So I headed there to pick some up for takeout. Early evening during the week. It wasn't busy. Order at the bar. 10 wings, med buffalo, blue cheese dressing. Easy transaction. Pickup is done through a kitchen window. I sat and waited over thirty minutes. I'm patient. That doesn't play a factor in my rating. Just something to note if your time is tight. When my order is ready for pickup, it is boxed and bagged. When I get home, I open the box, not much of a hint of buffalo. And for good reason. There is hardly any. They certainly hadn't been tossed in any. It's like someone dribbled a quarter ounce in a corner of the box and laid the wings in. Mind-boggling. There are two components to buffalo wings. Very disappointing. The blue cheese dressing was fantastic. Might be made in-house. Props if so.

I've been a regular (once or twice a week) since the Back Door opened in 1985. My picture is on the wall in the pool room. It's always been like Cheers - "where everybody knows your name" and is hands down the best neighborhood bar in Louisville. Generous pours, good drink prices, and they are always happy to make pretty much any drink you ask for.
The food is great and gets better all the time.
My only caution is, don't go there hoping to get a decent glass of wine.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Vanessa H.Louisville, KY881127Jul 25, 2023
A friend of mine, who is a Louisville native always told me about this place, and I finally had the opportunity to go. Since moving to Louisville, hands-down, the best bar food I've had here. Coming from Michigan. There are a lot of places that have bar food and I feel like I found a place that has food that I would eat if I were going out. Since we see ourselves, we don't really have much to say about service from that standpoint however, there's always someone fixing the pool tables helping people at the bar, and they always have a smile on their faces. The bar is really cool and very spacious. It's bigger than I thought it would be and it's such a cool space to hang out to get some good bar food or even to go get a night out with affordable drinks. Now I understand why people love this place.

We'd been coming to the Back Door off and on over 25 years but tonight was our last night in Louisville. We decided to have Back Door at midnight. I placed the order online. My husband went to pick up the $31 order and was searched, carded and then told he could not have our food till tomorrow afternoon. He explained we would not be in town and wanted our food. The cook still refused to make it. My husband showed the receipt with the order number on his phone, they still refused to make our food. However, the back door did charge our card for the food they wouldn't give us.
I tried to call several times and got voice mail. I would not recommend anyone order food from the back door online, you likely will not get what you paid for. We used to love the food and stopping in, but not now. Next time we are in Louisville, we will find a new place to patronize. The back door is just not worth stopping by anymore. It has really went downhill and devolved into an over priced disappointment where you just do not get what you pay for.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mark C.Baltimore, MD0189Jan 9, 2022
Been trying to find the best wings in town since moving here june 1...it has been a slog but i finally located them
and they are at back door. I got 10 (hot) and an order of fries. The wings came with ranch and celery and in addition to a moist toilette for later. The sauce makes the wings and this hot sauce was superb. In addition they were fried crispy. I asked for then well done which probably wasnt necessary. The bartender who took my order was VERY friendly and must have refilled my sweet tea 4/5 times. A great experience and i look forward to returning.
I havent been to every bar in town but if i had to guess id say that this place has the best bar food in town.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Anastasia A.Louisville, KY1085247854Oct 10, 2021
The best neighborhood bar in the Highlands, hands down.
Laid back vibe with a mix of people, hipsters to hippies. In the back, there's darts, pool and other games snd it is typically crowded here.
The drinks are strong and cheap. Friendly staff. This is also a great spot for last call.
I really think the food is delicious. I'm partial to the salt and pepper wings- crispy and moist, yum! The burger is large and always prepared correctly. Ive never had to go back due to a wrong order and that says a lot.
There's always a bar crowd and a bit of a line for carry outs. This place is popular for a reason! Everyone should go at least once.
A Highlands classic.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
