F*%k/Marry/Kill: Label/Team/Go It Alone

In recent years the range of options for releasing music has exploded, as has the number of questions that an artist and manager must address in developing a plan for new music. Do labels still offer a unique function that other teams can’t provide? Can independent providers and label services companies provide those same functions more effectively and efficiently? Can an artist release truly independently and expect to make an impact? And what do all these options mean for artists from standpoints of finances, ownership, and long-term development?

This panel explores the advantages and drawbacks of different release options: assembling and hiring a team for marketing / publicity, releasing independently on your own, or holding out for a traditional label deal. We’ll speak with a range of industry veterans on their own experiences and their overall view on the current state of scenarios for artists to explore.
