Vanunu by davidrovics published on 2013-05-15T10:44:19Z A song for Mordechai Vanunu, Moroccan-Israeli who blew the whistle on the Israeli nuclear weapons program and was kidnapped off the streets of Rome by Mossad and imprisoned for 18 years, most of them in solitary confinement. Im going to learn this gret song myself and sing it 2013-06-06T22:04:50Z Comment by Richard Smith 117 Thanks, David. It's a great use of 'did what I had to do' which is sometimes used to excuse less heroic actions than Mordecai's. Soto's suggestion of a simple & straightforward campaign title is one I agree with. However, this campaign - I think - is intended to put a spotlight on the bravery of whistleblowers worldwide, and the pathological possibilities and secrecy of the nuclear estate wherever it rears its ugly head. A possibiity for a new name - and, given the ability of those whose views differ, or who just want to be clever about disabling/hacking into the campaign's IT, the campaign might need a succession of names - is 'Telling nuclear truths' which can conveniently be contracted to TNT and has the double meaning provided by 'telling' being readable as the action of the campaign, and as a description of truths about the nuclear estate. 2013-05-29T01:58:18Z Comment by pf soto Suggestion for new renamed "cause": simply "no nukes" OR "no nukes, no one, no where: NO!" 2013-05-28T23:40:55Z Comment by PeteKlosterman Great song, David. It would be great if you would write a song opposing Assad's butchery in Syria, upholding the right of the Syrian revolutionaries to accept weapons from anyone who will provide them, including the US. 2013-05-25T17:14:54Z Comment by digidavey Great song David, for a really worthwhile cause. Thank you. I had the privilege of organising the filming of a benefit concert in London some years ago for this unsung hero. For my thoughts on the matter, please see my Facebook page of May 13th (digidavey) 2013-05-17T05:17:22Z Comment by keren4L So grateful that I am living during a time to be able to enjoy and draw inspiration from the songs of David Rovics. He is definitely music's voice of conscience! So glad that he did this piece on Vanunu!!! 2013-05-16T13:22:36Z Comment by Oddveig Vevik Skotte Really good! I got the chills... Yes, MVJC did what he had to do, thank you God, for giving him the strength to blow the whistle! 2013-05-16T08:50:14Z Comment by Eileen Fleming Vanunu did what he had to do 27 years ago and "Vanunu told the world that Israel had developed between one hundred and two hundred atomic bombs [in 1986!] and had gone on to develop neutron bombs and thermonuclear weapons. Enough to destroy the entire Middle East and nobody has done anything about it since."-Peter Hounam, 2003 for the BBC. 2013-05-15T11:42:30Z
