Twitter has made a few announcements over its video offering, and how it'll help it drive more video content to the service. The one that stood out for me, besides the insights, is the opportunity for creators and publishers to monetize their work.

The first announcement is that Twitter is now allowing videos up to 140 seconds, up from 30 seconds. Certain "select" accounts are already allowed to post videos up to 10-minutes.

On Vine, twitter has extended the videos up to 150 seconds, although they would be supplementary videos.. It's also looking at monetization opportunities for creators.

Additionally, Twitter Engage now offers real time data and insights into audiences. That sure helps when you want to know what's going on in when something is released. [blog.twitter.com...]

Well, you can always scroll past those videos. Or use TweetDeck for now.

The cash cow for twitter is in selling user data and metrics information to would be advertisers, I'm surprised they are willing to actually modify their platform to do that since they risk angering the users. We already have Vine, Youtube, Twitch etc. Twitter needs to find a uniquely Twitter way of monetizing Twitter, the copy-cat approach won't work long term, imo.

At 140 characters it is pretty obvious that twitter won't have a "thin" content penalty. :)
