This lecture will provide a comparative analysis of the ethical values applicable to the legal profession in Italy, Ireland and the Czech Republic. A good opportunity to compare how legal ethics is dealt with in three EU countries with different legal traditions. It will include an overview of the relevant principles ruling the conduct of lawyers in their professional relationships and an open discussion regarding other jurisdictions.

Speakers:

Avv. Lucia Fabbri is a practising lawyer and barrister in Italy. She is a member of the Siena Bar Council and a member of Consiglio Distrettuale di disciplina - Distretto di Firenze, this is the Council for the Florence District which deals with ethical questions relating to lawyers in the District Court of Appeal in Florence. Avv. Fabbri is a lecturer in law in Italy and is fluent in Engish, French and Italian. She practices primarily commercial law and is both a speaker and delegate at international conferences throughout the world.

JUDr. Jiri Novak is a Czech lawyer and a member of the Czech Bar Association. His practice usually involves litigation - both civil and criminal, and includes negotiating different types of transactions when dispute settlement is at stake. Jiri is a member of the Disciplinary Board o f the Czech Bar Association, which is a body of the Bar which main role is to adjudicate on disciplinary offenses of lawyers. He is also a tutor of the Council of Europe's Human Rights Education of Legal Professionals Programme, an active member of the Czech delegation to the CCBE and an upcoming chair of the IT law committee.

Eva Massa, Law Society of Ireland. Eva Massa is a Spanish lawyer and Irish solicitor. She is a Course Manager in the Law Society of Ireland with responsibility for the design and delivery of various modules on the Professional Practice Course, for trainee solicitors including ethics training. She is a member and Secretary of the EU & International Affairs Committee of the Law Society and Information Officer to the Council of European Bars (CCBE). Eva's other areas of expertise are; public international law, international human rights and legal skills.
