Exploring Glasgow's East End

While the West End gets all the hype and all of our hotels and apartments are situated to the west of the city centre, the intriguing East End has plenty to offer the Glaswegian and tourist alike.

The famous Barras market
Venturing past Glasgow Cross in Merchant City you will find the 'Barras' market. Open every Saturday and Sunday, this market hustles and bustles with East End life and is a must for anyone looking for antiques, bargains, or an amazing place to photograph Glasgow in its raw beauty.

Next to the Barras market is the 'Barras' Ballroom. This is the place to catch a gig in Glasgow and the dazzling, kitsch light display on the exterior is worth a look in itself in the evening.

The equally famous Barras Ballroom
Once you've had your fill of stall traders trying to ply their wares, stroll south to Glasgow Green, the largest park in the city. This laid back expanse of open space is a welcome respite from the bustling Barras.

The highlight of Glasgow Green is, undoubtedly, the People's Palace and Winter Gardens. The People's Palace hosts a wealth of historic artefacts and exhibitions giving a wonderful insight into how Glaswegians lived, worked and played in years gone by. Don't miss the recreation of a 'single ender' which shows in great detail many in Glasgow once lived.

After you're finished being immersed in Glasgow's rich past, enjoy a coffee and slice of cake in the wonderful cafe in the Winter Gardens. Sitting there you'd never have thought Glasgow had such hidden treasures in the heart of the city.

We'll cover more of the East End in future blog posts, so make sure you subscribe to get our latest tips on what to do in Glasgow.
