Glencoe Summertime Reminders

The summer months bring exciting events, outdoor excursions and fun! As you and your family enjoy the warm weather in our community, make sure to keep the following reminders and safety tips in mind:

Animal Safety Tips
Spending time outside with the family pet is a fun way to relax. Keep  the following tips in mind when going outside with your animals this summer:
  • Don't leave animals inside your vehicle, even with the windows cracked. The interior temperature of a vehicle can rise almost 20 degrees in 10 minutes. Keep your pets safe by leaving them at home.
  • All animals must be leashed when on public streets, sidewalks or any other public place.
  • Animals are prohibited on Glencoe Beach, even on a leash, from May 15 to September 15 each year.
If you have any questions regarding animal safety, please contact the Public Safety Department at (847) 835-4112.

Lock It or Lose it: Help Prevent Car Burglaries and Thefts
While our Public Safety teams work diligently around the clock to ensure that Glencoe is as safe as possible, our residents also have a part to play. Your task is simple: lock your cars. Last year alone, 40 car burglaries and 10 car thefts were reported to Public Safety. In every case, car doors were left unlocked and in the cases of car theft, keys had been left inside the car. Fight the Bite: Mosquito Prevention
Minimize your exposure to mosquito bites by following the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District's (NSMAD) prevention tips:
  • Water that stands for more than five days is a potential mosquito-breeding site. Report instances of standing water to NSMAD. If it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes.
  • Report dead birds, potential carriers of the West Nile Virus, to the Cook County Department of Public Health through the County's online reporting portal.
  • Use a mosquito repellent and wear clothes that fully cover your arms and legs to help prevent insect bites.
New Speed Signs Installed
Four new radar speed signs have been installed throughout the community in high-traffic areas. Pay extra attention to pedestrians and bicyclists during the summer months.
Lawn Sprinkler Restrictions
A reminder that to help curb water consumption, Village Code prohibits seasonal lawn sprinkling between the hours of Noon and 6 p.m. between May 15 and September 15. Learn more »
