Texans rookie David Quessenberry making fast progress

It’s not always wise to take Texans’ coach Gary Kubiak’s words totally literally when it comes to complimenting players he has.

Remember the gushing about Collin Klein, followed by Klein not being offered a contract?

Kubiak isn’t a coach who likes to rip players in public; if he needs to do it, he does away from the media. (And he did like Klein, though perhaps not as effusively as his words suggested.)

So I checked around a bit about offensive tackle David Quessenberry, who’s been asked to do a lot this offseason as the Texans’ stable of right tackles has dwindled. Derek Newton, the presumed starter, and third-round draft pick Brennan Williams are both recovering from knee surgeries. That’s left Quessenberry and veteran Ryan Harris with all the offseason reps.

Quessenberry has taken major strides in his development since he first got to Houston. And while he’s still a little raw, those around him are very encouraged by what they’ve seen.

I wrote a non-stolen-truck story about him in today’s paper. Read more here: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/texans/article/Even-with-AWOL-truck-Quessenberry-keeps-eye-on-4597532.php?t=3321dfeedff9985617
