Main Line Monday: A Nice New Neighbor in Gladwyne for $795K

This all-new home takes its design cues from its older farmhouse neighbors. By Gladwyne standards, this place is a bargain.

Usually, when one reads about a new home being built in Gladwyne, it’s usually some spectacular mansion being built by a celebrity or local notable, occasionally in the context of demolishing some equally spectacular historic mansion built by another notable in an earlier era.

This brand-new home is none of the above.

Instead, it’s part of Gladwyne Commons, an eight-unit condominium development that combines new construction with historic restoration close to Gladwyne’s bucolic village center. It’s designed to play real nice with its Pennsylvania farmhouse neighbors while at the same time containing all the modern frou-frou buyers in this low-for-Gladwyne price range expect.

Like an open plan main floor, for instance. This one is at least intelligently laid out so that the living, dining and cooking spaces still maintain distinct identities. (That’s a gas-burning fireplace in the living room, by the way.)

On the outside of this main floor are an attractive rear deck and one of those old-fashioned amenities that’s making a comeback: a covered front porch from which you can greet your neighbors and take in the passing scene.

(Having your neighbors stroll past your front porch may be a rare occurrence in most of Gladwyne, but given this home’s location within walking distance of the community’s main crossroads, it might actually happen here.)

The staircase is off to one corner of this home and is lit by a strikingly non-farmhouse-y window that extends the full height of the stairwell. Next to it are two closets, one on each floor, that can be removed for the installation of an elevator if you so desire. (This home is not quite complete, so this is still an option. The interior photos here are of another already completed home in this same development.)

Other high-end touches in this home include granite-topped vanities in the bathrooms, a separate (skylit) tub and shower in the master bathroom, and a kitchen with granite countertops and the usual complement of higher-end appliances, including a six-burner gas range.

There’s certainly plenty of room for you to relax outdoors in your own back yard or on that front porch, but if that’s not enough, the 14-acre Gladwyne Park is a short stroll away, giving you even more opportunity to play nice with your neighbors.
