PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A restaurant on Broad Street in Providence will be closed for 72 hours after a shots fired incident early Sunday morning.
Providence Board of Licenses Chairman Dylan Conley confirmed with Eyewitness News that the board held an emergency session Sunday after Providence Police requested an emergency 72-hour shutdown of the restaurant, citing concern for the health and safety of the public, the establishment and its employees.
Conley said early Sunday morning, police reported that there seemed to be a disturbance inside La Sonrisa at 320 Broad Street. He said one of the aggressors was allegedly escorted out of the establishment only to allegedly return, leading to a gunshot being fired. The bullet allegedly went into the exterior door jam of the establishment. To Conley’s knowledge, no one was hurt.
The Board of Licenses unanimously voted to grant the police department’s request for a 72-hour shutdown of La Sonrisa.
Conley said a full show-cause hearing will be held in the near future, meaning either Monday or Wednesday.
