Intel Shows Prototype Thunderbolt Flash Drive

At Computex Intel is showing off a Prototype flash drive, which they are calling the “world’s fastest thumb drive” which uses Thunderbolt technology rather than USB. The key-shaped drive carried with it a capacity of 128 GB and plugs directly into a Thunderbolt port. The drive itself is about the same size as normal USB flash drives.

Thunderbolt technology currently offers the fastest data transfer between computers and peripherals. Thunderbolt can transfer data at a speed of 10Gbps, which is half twice as fast as USB 3.0. The design that Intel was showing was just a reference design, but they said there is interest in building products based on the design. The speed of the device will go up with time with advances in Thunderbolt technology.
