American Horror Story fans have been scrabbling around in recent weeks trying to piece together what the theme for the sixth season of the show will be.

There have been endless teasers, with many apparently designed to throw you off the scent for what the next run of the show will be about.

A couple of sources have suggested that the title for the season is American Horror Story: The Mist, though apart from some B-movie rumblings, that doesn't really give the game away, even if it's true.

Part of the speculation from long ago was that the Tate-LaBianca murders committed by the Manson Family would figure - or at least a version of them.

And AHS fans have been piecing more and more evidence together to back that theory, with many now believing that Evan Peters will play Charles Manson, or someone very much like him.

As well as Evan looking oh-so Manson-esque not too long ago, the main bit of evidence appears to be this still from one of the teasers.

And a scene in another teaser is VERY spider-heavy. Just your trad AHS spookiness, or a nod to Manson's apparent obsession with all things arachnid.

Way back in the summer of 2013, showrunner Ryan Murphy told Deadline that he considered making the third season Manson-related.

"It changes. There was a point last year in August where I was like, 'I want to do an entire season about the Manson case'," he said.

"But then we decided that wasn't respectful to the victims, and it's really hard to get life rights."

He added: "We might go back to the Manson thing in some regard one day.

"We spend a lot of time specifically trying to get the look and the tone of it right. Every year has a different tone."

We'll find out one way or the other tonight, when American Horror Story returns to FX.
