Help Make Malta That Little Bit Safer

Article Featured Image

A crowdsourced map that locates the nearest Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in Malta and Gozo was launched last week, in an attempt to make Malta just that little bit safer.

An AED is a portable device that checks the heart rhythm and can send an electric shock to the heart to try to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest (i.e. a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating).

Using the map is very simple – those who need an AED can find the marker closest to them and head to that location. What Stefan Buttigieg, the creator of the map, is trying to do is get people to add their own marker to the list.

Adding A Marker

“The Challenge that we’re facing right now is that there is no simple way to find out where is the closest AED especially if the individual needing the AED is in an open space or in a building where the AED is not available.”

If you can’t add the marker yourself, you can email Stefan on the address he provided, and he’ll upload the marker himself (you’ll need to send the full address).

Even if you don’t know of any, share this post – you’ll never know who might need the help.
