NMAC’s Youth Initiative, supported by ViiV Healthcare,Magic Johnson Foundation and Advocates for Youth, now in its 6th year, aims to develop future leaders among a cadre of Youth Scholars to take action to end HIV/AIDS in their communities through educational training, professional development, and networking opportunities.
As part of the program, the 2016 scholars listed below will attend USCA to advance their leadership skills, build confidence and learn new ways to prioritize youth within HIV/AIDS programs and policies in their communities. NMAC’s mission to Lead with Race integrates race and social justice into our body of work championed by the Leadership Pipeline Department. Leadership is the ability to inspire and guide others toward a positive outcome. The session will feature a series of peer-led, round table discussions about different aspects of impactful leadership. Participants attending this 2016 Youth Initiative session will reflect on their own leadership journeys and share best practices on the following topics: youth leadership and activism, public speaking and storytelling, crisis management, owning the work, networking with confidence, and personal/professional branding. Join us to engage in the 60 Second Campaign!
PLWH-Centered Leadership - Taking Center Stage: Public Leadership of People Living With HIV

People living with HIV have served in leadership roles since the very beginning of the epidemic. At first, PLWH demanded and eventually achieved the right to meaningful involvement. Over time, PLWH participation has become standard and commonplace. Today, a new era of public leadership has begun, one that asks PLWH to lead the end of the epidemic. This interactive workshop explores how to build on the rich legacy of the past in order to ensure that PLWH are a part of the long journey ahead. Last, participant will generate a call to action for ensuring PLWH lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of HIV prevention and care services in the Ending the Epidemic era.

Race Equity and Health Literacy Framework provides evidence-based information about what's working and what's needed at the community, institutional, and societal levels to promote optimal health and wellness. HIV service delivery for communities of color and marginalized communities is the focus in a provocative action-oriented format.
MSM RISE Program - Nothing but a Number: Conversations on sex, trauma, and leadership between black gay men
This two-part real talk session will feature two black gay men networks in a historical conversation on leadership, sex, stigma, trust and lack of commitment. Part 1 conducted by The Young Black Gay Men's Leadership Initiative focuses on lessons learned between traditionalist, baby boomer, generation x and millennial Black gay men working towards the end of HIV/AIDS. Part 2 conducted by ManDate DC will explore rejection, abandonment, stigma, trust and lack of commitment. “The Devil’s Playground” creator, William Caldwell, will share his personal journey from sexual addiction.
