Chanel Is Launching A New Range Of Perfumes Inspired By Coco Chanel's Travels

Everyone in the office gets excited every time we get wind of new fragrance launches from Chanel. Even more so when it's an entire range. Known as Les Eaux de Chanel, this collection of three scents is inspired by Coco Chanel's favourite destinations: Deauville, Biarritz and Venice. Each of these places possess great significance in Coco Chanel's life as they each embody a different phase of her: Deauville was the location of her first boutique, Biarritz was the town where she spent summers with the love of her life, Boy Capel, and the decadent city of Venice was where she later grieved Capel's untimely death.

One of the Les Eaux de Chanel, Paris-Deauville Eau de Cologne is, as its name suggests, inspired by the Normandy town of Deauville. In the early 1900s, Deauville quickly became the go-to destination for members of the upper class who were looking to escape urban Paris to the idyllic seaside resorts that lined the beaches of the Normandy town. And it was here where she drew her inspirations for many of her designs and developed her penchant for jersey.

Coco Chanel spent her days in Deauville in the arms of Boy Capel, an English polo player who was the love of her life. As they spent time in the seaside town, she grew inspired by the fluidity and ease of menswear and began incorporating masculine elements into her designs. From the outfits of polo players to even what the fishermen wore, Chanel drew her inspirations from the practicality of the unrestricted nature of menswear. She eventually opened her first fashion boutique in Deauville (her boutique in Paris only sold hats), offering women her unique brand of comfortable and incredibly chic clothes that would go on to revolutionise womenswear.
