On Tap: Girls like beer too, you know

Girls Pint Out, a national organization for women who enjoy craft beer, now has a New Jersey chapter.

I recently heard some good news: for the first time ever, women are choosing beer over wine.

BeerPulse

recently confirmed this, reporting that according to a 2012 Gallup pool, more women ages 18 to 34 prefer beer to wine.

As women migrate to their new beverage of choice, craft beer clubs for women are springing up all over the place, including New Jersey.

Girls' Pint Out, a craft beer organization that began in Indiana but has since grown to have chapters all over the country, recently had its New Jersey chapter launch. On Thursday, April 11th, the ladies of Girls' Pint Out headed to the Irish Mile in Westmont, NJ to sample some of the sixty-plus beers on tap. These craft beer lovers hold monthly events to spread the word on women and craft beer and, of course, enjoy a pint or two. The organization's slogan, "We're gals into grolsch. Ladies into Lagers. Angels of ale. You get the idea", pretty much says it all. To find out more about Girls' Pint Out, visit their website, Facebook, or Twitter.

Another women's craft beer organization is Beer for Babes, which is the brainchild of the award-winning beer journalist Tara Nurin. Ms. Nurin, who writes several craft beer columns, including a national column on women and beer called "Athena's Fermentables" for Ale Street News, is able to leverage her experience and network to bring in some of the top speakers in the region. The club also hosts various dinners, classes, pairings, private brewery tours, and homebrew days, and, to top it all off, my good friend and one of New Jersey's premiere food critics turned women-in-beer advocate, Lisa Howard-Fusco, is the president of the club's Jersey Shore chapter. For more on Beer for Babes, visit their Facebook page.

Women now prefer beer to wine, and this trend doesn't show any signs of slowing down. If you're a beer babe yourself, or maybe are married to one, why not check out one of these organizations to be apart of it all?
