Duchess Meghan wore Givenchy for her first trip to the Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot 2018 - Day 1

Finally! The royal carriages have arrived to Royal Ascot. In attendance: the Queen, the Princess Royal, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Countess of Wessex, the Earl Wessex, Prince Harry and of course, the Duchess of Sussex. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge sat this one out, and I suspect that perhaps William and Kate will sit out this year’s Royal Ascot entirely. We learned early this morning that Meghan and Harry would come to Royal Ascot today, and all I could think was “please don’t let Meghan wear a giant doily.” Guess what? She avoided wearing a giant doily. Hallelujer.

So what did Meghan wear? According to royal reporter Emily Andrews, Meghan wore a bespoke Givenchy dress and a Philip Treacy hat. Unfortunately for all, the Countess of Wessex seemed to be wearing Emilia Wickstead – the same designer who tried to claim that Meghan’s Givenchy wedding gown was a copy. I am disappointed in Sophie for continuing to wear Wickstead’s designs, honestly. Anyway, I like what Meghan’s wearing and I can’t wait to see the full-length design. But you know who’s the star of these photos? Princess Anne. In old-timey books, they used to describe women as “handsome.” That’s what Anne is – she’s a handsome woman who wears her age well. She looks regal AF.

Oooh, here’s a full-length shot of Meghan’s Givenchy. I like this? I think the hemline makes it work.

    Safe choice.

  2. Sara says:

Serving some My Fair Lady realness!!!! I like her style but I also like kimonos and robes.

    • FLORC says:

You’re right! I couldn’t place my finger on how that style was familiar to me.
      Love it

    • Sherry says:

Perfect description and I love how she looks in this!

    • Gogo says:

Yes, My fair Lady is what Her look reminds me of. Is she going to continue with the Audrey Hepburn looks ?

      • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

Hey…can’t go wrong going full Audrey! lol

She looks lovely. I don’t know if I could do it, after her trash-heap of a father’s interview, but she does 😊.

I love black and white, but given that it’s summer (or will be in two days), I think that navy with this shade of white would’ve looked spectacular. But regardless, she looks chic and elegant.

    • Eleonor says:

      I saw that tooo!!!!!

    • morrigan01 says:

The minute I saw the outfit, I totally thought of My Fair Lady and what Eliza wore to Ascot in the movie.

Givenchy because famous because Hepburn wore his style and clothes in her films all the time, and they – via Clair Wright Keller – look like they’ll be Meghan’s go-to designers as well, along with some Stella McCartney thrown in I would think.

    • Singtress says:

I came here to say this. I see Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.

    • Lexie says:

EXACTLY what I came to say. Big relief after the last several miss-es.

  3. perplexed says:

I can’t get over how different she looks from when she was on Suits.

    • OriginalLala says:

she really does, and I can’t figure out what it is …. weight loss? the shape of her face has changed

      • perplexed says:

I can’t figure it out either.

      • Sally says:

Right, losing weight and gaining Botox.

      • Isan says:

I noticed that too. From what I can tell from the pictures it’s not just physical (the weightless is very noticeable), but energy wise she seems to have toned down a lot. From the bright, bubbly gorgeous woman, we are now shown a toned down version of her, suitable and adapted to the RF.
Maybe it’s because she is trying really hard to get it right and not overstep?
I really hope she can manage herself there and stay true to herself…..

      • Aurelia says:

        She has stopped contouring.

      • Natters says:

Since she returned back from her Honeymoon her face has looked different, it reminds me of when Jada Smith put those lollipop fillers in her cheeks. I think that is why her makeup has been all wonky now.

      • sass says:

She is tan because she is mixed race she gets dark in the summer.

    • Nn says:

She looks the same, just thinner.

      • MoCO says:

Agreed. I’ve been binge-watching Suits and she’s quite a bit smaller now, but otherwise looks the same.

      • perplexed says:

She was much more beautiful on Suits.

It may simply be a clothing and make-up issue that has changed her looks a bit, but if that’s the case, Prince Harry needs to be fired as her stylist.

      • KiddV says:

I’m sure it’s more of a lighting and makeup issue. Daylight is a harsh light, shows all the flaws. A perfectly lighted set can make everyone look good.

      • terra says:

        @KIddV

        What flaws?

Seriously, though, I do agree with you that it’s probably just a lighting issue from moving out of the studio and into public events. That and a little bit a weight loss – it’s not like someone that small had to loss much to be noticeable after all. And who can blame her after everything her father’s side of her family put her through?

        Still, what flaws? She’s gorgeous.

      • PrincessK says:

She has lost weight through stress of doing the RF and having to cope with her awful relatives.

      • KiddV says:

@terra – I meant in general, daylight shows flaws, not that Meghan has flaws. I think her skin looks more natural now than on Suits, I like it better. I like her freckles. And yes, she is gorgeous.

    • liriel says:

Exactly. She looks so different like a different person!

  4. girl_ninja says:

Meghan keeping it clean, crisp and simple. She looks lovely. this is her best hat yet.

    • LadyT says:

      I agree. Great hat.

    • Natalie S says:

I can see what she’s going for. I think it just needs a bit of refining. A good stylist would help.

      • StartupSpouse says:

I think it’s the belt, right? It doesn’t work with this dress, which I think is lovely and the fabric looks amazing. I just don’t know why she would accessorize with this belt. But maybe I’m wrong?

      • sass says:

Meghan’s body type means she had to wear a belt or it will be the wedding dress tailoring debacle again.

    • RoyalSparkle says:

      +1000

Beautiful headwear and seem fitting beside Countess Wessex’s.

Finally again, another Royal regal head wear/hair style and appropriate dress for The Duchess Sussex. More similar wear like this – Anzac Memorial please – less celebrity styling.

  5. j says:

Well, it’s terrible and frumpy looking so I guess her royal makeover is complete.

    • Chaine says:

I feel the same way, are voluminous shirt dresses going to be her “thing” the way Kate’s “thing” is buttons? They make her look like a little girl playing dress-up with mommy’s clothes. I suppose she has to play the party line while she’s learning how to do everything and trying to fit in, but hopefully eventually she can settle back into a more flattering style.

      • cher says:

Chaine, you hit the nail on the head, She looked like a little girl seating next to the Countess of Wessex.

      • sass says:

The Countess of Wessex who was wearing an EW outfit and EW was on daily mail trash talking her wedding hair, makeup and dress. I would be uncomfortable too with such blatant hate.
Plus that ugly EW dress looked like it hard a snake crawling out the arms.

    • Aurelia says:

It is a foul dress. A budget looking shirt dress looks out of place at ascot. At first I thought it looked interesting from the full length side on photo. But then I realised it was a budget looking white shirt dress.

    • Liberty says:

I dislike the dress for Ascot, even with the embroidery at the waist. It seems more appropriate for a private summer garden party or dressier brunch event. The shirt collar swamps her somehow and seems stiff. It is not a disaster but it seems ill-chosen for the day and her role.

I like the hat, but imagine it with a different dress.

      • silver says:

I like the white coat/shirt type dress she’s wearing for Ascot. Probably the best outfit she’s worn after marriage. Polished, bridal and classy. It’s also very Kateish. Meghan’s go to will be pricey custom Givenchy, in the same way, Kate is McQueen. I expect to see more custom outfits for her engagements. I think Meghan is going to dress more like Kate at functions with the RF and maybe her own style will start to develop and come through on her separate engagements, with and without Harry. She’s worn quite a few Kate looks already. The Commonwealth service outfit was the same outfit Kate had worn some years ago. If people think she’ll branch out and go completely fashionista… they’ll be disappointed. I don’t know what to say for the Oscar De La Renta wedding outfit. Meghan has a liking for clothes which fit taller women and she might be going for the priciest and biggest names without looking at the fit. I don’t understand though how Kate/Meghan can get their outfits wrong when they have the best at their disposal. Boggles the mind.

    • spargel says:

Very much with you. I can see Camilla or Anne in this–it’s too matronly and that hat is the worst. She’s getting sucked into royal fug protocol fast.

  6. Maria says:

I ‘d have liked something dressier on Meghan.

    • Eliza says:

I agree. A shirtdress for Ascot? No.

      The hat I love though.

      • Film Production Manager says:

I know. eeek… The shirtdress is beautiful, but definitely not for Ascot. Also another white Givenchy dress… Yawn. I can’t believe how dainty she is. Hair, hat and make up – gorgeous.

    • M4lificent says:

Yeah, the dress isn’t cringingly awful — and I’m sure it’s made out of some gorgeous silk or other. But it’s still just a shirtdress. A great hat like that deserves a snappy dress to go along with it.

    • RoyalSparkle says:

      +1

A shirt dress for a the Duchess – Royal Consort while The Duke is very regal formal.

    • Imeanreally says:

      Agree. Shirtwaist not dressy enough.

      • Ankhel says:

The photo of her in the carriage looked promising – monochrome look, good hat. Then the dress turned out to be underwhelming AND overwhelming at once. Again! Why so much fabric and so little tailoring? You’re tiny, Meghan.

Also, why stick your neck out again for a French fashion house? It won’t make you popular, English people working there or not, and they don’t even dress you well?

    • PrincessK says:

I think Meghan is trying to be low key, in future when she feels more secure and her awful family have run out of things to say she will wear more stunning outfits.

  7. homeslice says:

That dress is a hot mess! Dump Givenchy, stat! From the neck up is pretty.

    • minx says:

Ugh, yes. Love the hat but the dress is just a big nothing.

      • Imeanreally says:

Can’t understand why everyone loves the hat. Maybe I’d like it better with a different dress. That shirtwaist is so wrong in so many ways.

      • minx says:

I just think the hat is chic, it’s sort of tailored if that makes any sense. And I think it actually flatters her face.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yes, although Meghan herself looks absolutely lovely, and the hat and her up-do are huge wins, the dress just looks a bit wrong to me on several counts — it’s a shirtwaist, first and foremost, which isn’t dressy enough for Ascot — and though it isn’t as voluminous as the floral bedspread she wore the other day, it looks a bit large, and the uneven hemline is awful on a shirtdress, which is a tailored style. Asymmetrical hemlines look best in sheer or semisheer silks and chiffons, but for godssake, not on a tailored shirtdress in a heavier fabric. I blame Givenchy and I hope Meghan pries herself away from them asap.

Dress aside, Meghan has such a lovely, sweet face and graceful figure, and I love her manner: personality and warmth! Such a refreshing addition to the BRF. Harry is a lucky man. And I’m so impressed with the Queen for how she has fast-tracked Meghan into the fam, letting her present a trophy here and taking her on the royal train last week. It’s clear the two of them get along very well.

    • Cberry says:

Love the hat. I also like the hem cut on the skirt, and although I do like a lovely, flowing skirt, from this angel the dress seems to swallow her up. She’s a bit too skinny for it, or it makes her look too skinny, like a stick almost. I like her style but this dress in the pic does not have a very complimentary fit on her.

  8. Cher says:

Safe choice! Poor choice. The hemline is horrible. She is too petite for that hemline.
    Get a stylist, Meghan.

    • homeslice says:

Embroidery, belts and hems…oh my! It’s like 3 different dresses in one…terrible. Does someone at Givenchy not like her??

      • Jasmine18 says:

        +1,000,000
She’s gorgeous. Dressing her should be a doddle but this is so ……meh!

      • Liberty says:

This. She is a beautiful woman being buried by awkward clothing lately.

    • PrincessK says:

The hemline seems to have been poorly executed.

  9. Milla says:

Emilia and Sophie have a good relationship. EW didn’t attack Meghan, but givenchy. And so did Escada.
Givenchy cannot become Markle’s go to house, it’s French. And they had their issues in the past decade, hope she finds a nice British designer, not Burberry or McQ, maybe someone less famous, like a real trendsetter?

    • Busyann says:

Givency is French, but the designer Clare Keller is British so she’s okay to wear it.

      • RoyalSparkle says:

        +1000

      • Aurelia says:

She’s meant to be able to showcase british fashion. And just becaue the designer is english doesn’t mean UK taxpayer money isn’t going into the French economy instead of staying within the U.K.

      • sass says:

If British designers are being snarky and bitchy towards her then she should go to whoever makes her feel comfortable. Claire Waight Keller has proved herself to be trustworthy and it’s working for them.

      • Tina says:

As a Brit, I couldn’t give a toss. Kate wears Chanel, Gucci, D&G. As long as Meghan throws some British designers into the mix, that’s fine with me.

    • Natalie S says:

EW did go after Meghan. I remember she commented on her hair. She criticized how one of her clients looked to the press and left up instagram posts with an EW tag on an image of Meghan even after her apology.

EW behaved terribly and it’s petty of Sophie to wear her designs when she knows she’s going to be photographed with Meghan. Does not reflect well on Sophie. But this is the woman who was caught yelling at her RPF in the street.

      • Olenna says:

Agree, EW did criticize of Meghan’s hair. Apparently, accusing Givenchy of copying her design wasn’t enough to soothe this petty woman’s wounded pride.

      • Milla says:

EW wasn’t professional, but Meghan would look great in her dresses.

      • Masamf says:

Meghan wore Emilia at the Anzac day and looked terrible. So no to EW on Meghan.

      • annabanana says:

Is Sophie supposed to stop using a designer she obviously likes because of an in law she barely knows? That’s a bit unfair to Sophie

      • Milla says:

Beg to differ. Imo she looked great. Regal. It wasn’t groundbreaking, but it’s brf.

      • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

Maybe this is Sophie’s passive-aggressive way of hitting back at Meghan getting cosy with TQ lol. Or just maybe she had a word with Meg and asked her if she minded if she continued to wear EW (appropriate initials for her behavior/comments!), and Meg is taking the high road and saying whatev…. Who knows! 😊

      • MAF says:

Or maybe, just maybe, Meghan doesn’t care about the whole situation and Sophie is a grown woman and decided to wear because she likes it and there is nothing petty about it.

      • Aurelia says:

Agreed, I think Sophie should have rethought her fav designer and dumped Emila. Have some solidarity.

      • Jane says:

Meh, Sophie can wear any designer she likes, regardless of that designer’s opinion on Meghan’s hair.

Meghan has worked tirelessly since leaving Northwestern to become a public figure, now she is one and at the tax payers’ expense too. That means we – the public – are entitled to voice our opinions about her hair, her clothes etc. I liked her hair at Ascot, I liked her hair at TTC, I liked her hair in childhood pictures. I did not like her hair at her wedding or at the Harry’s cousin’s wedding.

    • silver says:

I agree. There are so many medium priced British designers she could champion and make them even bigger. When Kate started out with designers, she went for the biggest names/priciest. Meghan seems to be doing the exact same thing. As for EW… Sophie should be able to wear whatever she likes. Emilia’s designs are classic, modest and lovely.

      • formerly known as Amy says:

EW is a racist and her clothes are ugly and knock off’s of other designers. MM looks lovely in a non stuffy. Her style is edifying in that it makes me look for similar clothes. The other royals are not worth copying their style. MM is a trendsetter thus she will have more critics but that’s ok.

  10. HK9 says:

I love Meghan’s hat and I must say I’m really enjoying Sophie’s outfit as well. 🙂

    • PrincessK says:

Yep, the hat is the best part of the outfit, it looks perfect on her head and fits the surroundings.

      • Masamf says:

I encourage people to check out the videos before rendering verdicts, pictures don’t usually tell the whole story. Meghan looks really good in the video. And it’s very apparent the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have big hots for each other. Very much fun to watch.

      • Serpentinefire says:

In the videos she looked fabulous in that dress, and they def have the hots for each other. Did you see the one where the jockey kissed her hand and Harry waged his finger lol.

      • sass says:

Sophie’s outfit it terrible and EW sucks as a person. Eugenie and Anne looked good but Bea was also there.

      • Bella DuPont says:

        @ Sass

One woman who always manages to look quite beautiful, regal and elegant, despite having the soul of a hyena, is Princess Michael of Kent.

        Didn’t she attend this year?

      • PrincessK says:

Harry did wag his finger at the jockey but if you see the whole thing you will know that it was edited to make it look like Harry was giving him a jokey warning about Meghan, there was a big gap between the hand kiss and the finger wag.

Yes, Princess Michael of Kent was there, I wonder if Meghan chatted with her over lunch which was had earlier. Yes, Marie is a fading beauty but her personality is questionable.

      • sass says:

Kent does always look good but she looked sick or something this time. The lady walking in front of her was amazing though.
        https://twitter.com/RoyalCentral/status/1009066072874606592

      • Masamf says:

I did, it was funny. I wasn’t sure though is the jockey did it just to get a reaction out of Harry, which he did LOL. Or maybe as @Princessk said, it was the media playing mind games, crazy! There were 2 other guys though, one in Brixton and the other in Cardiff I believe, that kissed Meghan’s hand and I thought it was really weird. I read that the jockey is 5’4″, I didn’t realize how short 5’4″ can look till I read about this guy and saw his pic. And Meghan, who I think is more on the shorter sider was towering over this guy!! Maybe he is shorter than that? Anyway, I think Meghan looks amazing. I’m not sure where the claims that she is noticing herself are coming from because she looks exactly as she looked before she met Harry. I think her black genes are helping her out her so she looks youthful, as they say: black don’t crack….

  11. Loopy says:

And what would be the difference between Countess and a Duchess. I ask this because the husband is CHarles brother so do the
brothers wives get higher titles than his sons wives?

    • Becks1 says:

A duchess outranks a countess. Sophie is a countess because Edward was made an Earl upon marriage, not a duke like Andrew, William and Harry were.

(supposedly Edward will one day be the Duke of Edinburgh so then Sophie will be a duchess.)

    • Tina says:

      What Becks1 said.

    • Gpixie says:

It’s assumed that Prince Edward will inherit the title of Duke of Edinburgh when Prince Philip dies.

    • CeeCee says:

It’s what Edward wanted. It’s all good.

  12. Cher says:

Look at the pictures from the front, please. No, no, no.

    • Muffy says:

It looks like she’s like she leaned up against a sander and had to cover the little tears with a belt. I think that’s supposed to be embroidery, but she should have a better sense of what will play well on camera.

  13. Tonya says:

Anne look just like her mom lol

  14. YankLynn says:

I think Meghan looks great — the dress fits, has an interesting hemline, she’s wearing a great big hat that isn’t stupid looking and her hair is appropriately styled under it. I couldn’t see a close up of her earrings but they looked small. I’d have hoped for something a teeny bit flashier. Anyway, I hope she bets on a horse and has fun cheering with the rest of the family and doesn’t think about her greedy, mouthy father all day.

    • PrincessK says:

Am I the only one, but I felt that both Meghan and Harry had sad eyes despite their smiles, and they are really feeling bruised by her very underhand and tricky father.

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

Very possible — and so sad to contemplate. I hate hate HATE that Meghan is having to endure this public mortification from her self-engrossed father during a time when she’s still in the proving-herself stage as a new (and divorced, and American, and multi-racial) member of the WASPY, tradition-bound BRF. Gotta say, I think Meghan is acquitting herself with grace, dignity, and warmth under terribly stressful circumstances.

      • PrincessK says:

        I totally agree with you.

      • Masamf says:

@PrincessK, I think that’s possible. The thing is, Harry knows that Meghan is being attacked because of her association with him. I think he feels terrible for her, really. I think Meghan’s kind and sweet personality plus the abuse she is going through because of her association with the RF, I think those are some of the reasons HM and PoW are standing firmly by Meghan. I think there gonna continue to do a lot of things differently for her and I think this is their way of flipping the haters. It’s like “take that and choke you vile hateful goodfornothings”…

  15. All About Eve says:

I like the hat, however I don’t think the shirt dress was the right choice for Royal Ascot. The handkerchief hem doesn’t look good and makes her look wide at the bottom.

Meghan is quite petite and it doesn’t look as if she’s quite figured out what silhouette suits her.

    • Olenna says:

I love the hat, but the shirt dress is too…for lack of a better word…serviceable looking. The pointed collar and hem combined with covered buttons and lace bodice is odd, IMO. Regardless, she looks very pretty in white. Here’s a better view.
      https://www.elle.com/uk/fashion/celebrity-style/a21612289/meghan-markle-royal-ascot-givenchy/

      • minx says:

Oh dear. It looks worse head on. Cheap.
The hat is fabulous and deserves a chic, more fitted dress.

      • Leela says:

Yes, the collar and belt are casual, covered buttons ok, but the lace is ick. The handkerchief hem is another case of Meghan trying too hard to be a trend follower, and it makes her legs look bad. I hope she will realize she can be a trendsetter in her position, not a fashion sheep. I also think these styles will look dated by next year. Trying to combine classics with a trendy touch isn’t working here, nor in her past couple of outings (pink off shoulder, oversized dress). The hat and, finally, hair are excellent.

      • Rainbow says:

Ummm…what is a black leather belt doing with that dress? The contrast is so stark. You have a flowy, off-white dress almost bridal in design with those appliques on the bodice..and it’s paired with a belt that looks better with skirt/pantsuits. Office vs picnic.

It’s a miss. The wrong accessories can really bring down an outfit while the right ones elevate and complete.

      • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

I actually like the dress, from the waist up. I would’ve liked a straight pencil bottom for it, which IMO looks best on Meghan. Not loving it from the waist down: makes her look hippy (which she sure isn’t!), and the hemline does her no favors. OTOH, that hat is FANTASTIC! LOVING that hat! Makeup and hair on pointe as well!

      • Alice says:

Oh… I don’t like this dress. It’s very my grandmother’s style which looked OK on my elder granny but on a younger woman looks boring to tears. Besides, I never managed to like the white dress, black accessories, black shoes on nude tights combo. It’s very harsh and if the dress is not both colors, I never like it. This is another failed attempt in my opinion. I also wish Meghan would start wearing some more colours. The hat is gorgeous but the dress kills the excitement.

      • sass says:

The dress is youthful and amazing. I just think people subconsciously want her to wear coat dresses and I hope she continues to resist.

  16. erni says:

Maybe Givenchy “gifted” her several clothes for the PR that wedding gown generates.

    • Milla says:

They aren’t allowed to get anything. Maybe she likes the designer. But mm can do better.

    • Rapunzel says:

I didn’t think that Givenchy gifted these outfits to her. But I do think she had a bunch of white/cream dresses made with her wedding gown. Maybe they were included in the cost of the gown? Would explain why the gown cost so much.

      • Milla says:

Maybe. Givenchy hasn’t been great since forever. Maybe they want to secure a royal place. Tisci did damage the brand… Makes sense.

      • erni says:

that’s why i typed “gifted”, maybe it was bespoke with special price or as rapunzel said included in the wedding cost gown.

      • Aurelia says:

Maybe Givenchy did gift her a series of uggles dresses? It would be the right thing to do considering they charged half a million dollars for the wedding dress.

      • sass says:

This CWK is so Audrey Hepburn and i like it.

    • Genessee says:

I have a feeling several fashion houses “gifted” Meghan before she became a royal to skirt around that “no gifting” rule. I mean, she already proved the “Meghan effect” with her Invictus Games appearance completely making the shirt, leather jacket, and sunglasses she wore sold out for months. These designers plan ahead. I have a feeling we’ll see much more Givenchy in the months ahead.

  17. Becks1 says:

I love it. The hat is great – its fun to see her in something different than those plain hats we’ve seen. That dress is really pretty and simple and she will be able to wear it again for other functions.

I’m surprised at Sophie. I wonder if she is doing it to be passive aggressive, if she asked Meghan and Meghan said she didn’t care, etc.

    • harla says:

Sophie was one of my favorite royal ladies but now I’m just not sure about her. I could give her a pass for the first Wickstead dress she wore to the Trooping but now she’s wearing another one, that just feels wrong to me.

    • Nic919 says:

I love Meghan’s ensemble today but then again I like the simple Givenchy look. The hat is one of her best ones to date.
Not sure what Sophie is doing here. She doesn’t have quite the same budget as the daughters in law of the Prince of Wales, so I am hoping she couldn’t change things up, or she cleared it with Meghan. They seem to be cordial in the carriage so maybe there was a discussion.

    • magnoliarose says:

I like the hat as far as a British hat event is concerned. The dress is fine.
What I do like is that she is trying new things so even when it misses at least it is not a matronly monstrosity. Dressing for these British hat events is not easy and I don’t think I have ever loved anything a royal has worn to them.
For early days I think she did ok today. I never like handkerchief hemlines so that is just a personal preference. I do like formal shirtdresses a lot. I have a black one that I have had for 15 years that I still wear to dinner or something with sandals. I don’t mind that she is wearing one though I would have preferred a different design.

    • notasugarhere says:

I like this a lot too. Simple, flowy, easy to get in and out of carriages, but with interest at the waist and hemline.

  18. RedOnTheHead says:

Wow, Anne looks exactly like HM in this pic. Somehow I never noticed that before. I love Meghan’s outfit. From what I can see in these pics it fits, it looks summer appropriate, it’s not too casual nor too dressy and the hat is great. Her hair is polished and much improved from the weekend wedding look. From what little I understand of the Royal Ascot dress code I think she nailed this one.

  19. AG-UK says:

From the shoulders up nice but that dress doesn’t look very good to me and that hem no the fabric eek. Oh well.

  20. Busyann says:

Oh I love that first picture. Meghan is super short and you can clearly see it.

  21. Franny Days says:

It looks super frumpy in other pics 🙁
    But I still love her.

    • Liberty says:

The dress makes me think of Anne if Green Gables somehow. Fine, but not for Ascot.

  22. erwin says:

She’s wearing bespoke Givenchy. Who was yesterday complaining about Kate bespoke Alexander McQueen? Your duchess is no that different from kate, eh?

    • Sophia says:

Lol watch your back, you are about to get attacked by the defenders of she-is-a-breath-of-fresh-air Duchess

    • Becks1 says:

      I’ll bite.

I don’t really care that Kate wears bespoke McQueen. I care that she takes a piece that is pretty already and has changes made to it that make it…..not as pretty. Like stop ruining a good designer piece!

I also care that Kate works so little. If Meghan ends up doing as few engagements as Kate for her first 7 years of marriage, but still insists on wearing lots of bespoke designer pieces, then I’ll complain.

      • Masamf says:

LOL, 😂😂😂😂, oookkkaayy, 😂😂😂 now what? LOL, oh man, I love this site.

      • magnoliarose says:

I know right. They ALWAYS skip over the lack of work ethic part. Why? Because it is the heart of the complaint.

      • Liberty says:

Right? It is not the clothes, the buttons, the hair, the bleh McQueen. It is the lack of Kate’s work ethic. Work. Ethic. Lack. Of. It is grabbing the perks and cash for a job undone, for not even handing out some clover, for cancelling appearances to shop the high street. Lack of work ethic.

If she gets to work like Sophie, another royal mom, I won’t even mind the wedges. Likewise, if MM becomes all lazy, yes, I will frown.

    • Olenna says:

Ha! I’ll bite, too. Who was complaining about KM’s bespoke Alexander McQueen outfits? Fess up, y’all! The rest of us are tired of getting put in the general population. We’re not hive minds, you know! LOL!

      • minx says:

        😂😂

      • Becks1 says:

I know! That was my other thought. The only time I’ve actually “complained” about Kate wearing McQueen* was when she wore that blue skirt and white blouse to visit flood victims. That seemed really out of touch.

Beyond that, I may have issues with the actual McQueen outfit, but I don’t care that she is wearing McQueen.

      • magnoliarose says:

        Bzzzzz. Lol

      • Liberty says:

I care that the McQueens she wears hardly look like McQueen, and end up with wonky sewing class hems.

    • annabanana says:

She might outspend kate at the rate shes going, seems like she’s just going for the brand and price regardless of how it looks

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah….she might. I know I said the other day that if she shows up to every engagement this year in a brand new Givenchy, I will start to judge. For her first few engagements I’m giving her a pass as she builds her wardrobe. (for example this piece looks like it could transition easily to a more everyday event.) But if by the end of the year she has done 100 engagements and we have 100 new Givenchy outfits…….I’ll do my share of complaining then.

      • Aurelia says:

No problem with Meghan out spending waity if she works 10 times as much as waity. Which I’m thinking she will cause it ain’t hard.

      • Liberty says:

        @Aurelia, 😄👏

    • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

Honestly, in the first pic in The Fail (I know, I know! but they were first up with pics), I honestly thought she *was* Kate, standing there with the “turtle neck out of the shell” posture. I literally did a double take lol

      • PrincessK says:

I saw a pic of her in the carriage with her back turned and she looked exactly like Kate, who has done her hair in that style before.

    • silver says:

Yes… Hopefully, people criticising Kate’s bespoke outfits will stop now, LOL. Meghan is going to take Kate’s lead, she will spend just as much, if not more. If people are going to complain about taxpayers money for outfits then do it for both or don’t do it all because it is silly and hypocritical.

  23. Caroline says:

I’ve just binged the entire series of Suits and I have to say I’m less concerned with her choice in fashion than the fact she might get tired of this. I really like Meghan, but seriously “royal life” seems like it will get old.

I don’t know if driving around in carriages w your in-laws in fancy dresses will be all that exciting after the novelty wears off. I mean, acting might not be the most serious of endeavors but all this pomp and puffery just seems … IDK shallow?

I’d love to see her and Harry out doing the things they care about more than playing dress-up. And this from someone who watched the wedding live and has watched it at least 2x more on Hulu lol. I’m a fan!

    • Becks1 says:

I think they will, with time. This part of the year for the royals is always very pageant-y. I bet by the fall or next winter we will start to see Meghan really off and running.

I hope, at any rate, ha.

      • homeslice says:

I think she may decide to start a family and will never be up and running…but time will tell…

      • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

I believe in July (around the 10th?) they’re going to Ireland, and of course, in the fall, there will be the Invictus Tour of Australia, Tonga, NZ, and Fiji. Not sure if I heard of anything in-between those two events though.

    • harla says:

Hi Caroline, I too am waiting for her and Harry to start doing engagements for causes they are passionate about. I have the wedding recorded and am a bit embarrassed to say how many times I’ve watched the whole thing or at least the exchanging of vows 🙂

    • Masamf says:

If she is in it for the excitement, the she’s in for a very rude awakening. But if she is in there because she fell in love with Harry and wants to spend the rest of her life with this man, then all is well. She is no different than any other woman that leaves her family home and a single life of partying with other single friends, falls in love with a guy and gets married and probably starts a family and stay with the guy for decades because their love tramples all the suits drama series in the wold. I have a feeling Meghan is it it because she fell in love with Harry. The rest is just icing on her cake.

    • M4lificent says:

Meghan’s had real-world jobs and many years of networking and chasing after parts as an actress. I don’t think it will come as a shock to her that sometimes any lifestyle has boring routine. I think it’s been an issue for some of the trust-fund royal girlfriends who were used to taking on hobby jobs in between vacations. But, like Sophie and some of the older royals, Meghan already has an established work ethic.

      • Caroline says:

I hope you’re right! And I agree w Masamf who makes a great point. She’s building a life with him, maybe it won’t matter if parts of it are less-than thrilling.

    • Sally says:

Ill-fitting frocks aside, is she wearing pantyhose? Didn’t she forgo them for the cousin’s wedding? Is she wearing Flori Roberts leg makeup? ( dramatic organ music)

      • PrincessK says:

Unfortunately she is wearing tights, she should have been bold like Bea and gone with bare legs but I think she wants to respect the Queen.

  24. whatever says:

FYI – this is the third time Sophie has worn Emilia Wickstead since the royal wedding – The first time was at Trooping, the second time was yesterday at the Order of the Garter ceremony and the third is today. Considering the Sophie is wearing EW designs with such frequency and she was sat in the carriage alongside Meghan it makes me think the Meghan doesn’t really care for EW comments.

    • sass says:

or sophie is trying to rehab EW her terrible friend

      • silver says:

EW doesn’t need anyone to rehab her lmao. She’s friends and acquaintances with the elite/upper class of this country. Her label is going to be fine. I was just shocked that those comments made it into the public sphere.

      • formerly known as Amy says:

So why do you think sophie has worn EW everyday this week?

  25. C. Remm says:

I like the dress but not the hemline. The application on the waist looks nice. Why did we think, that Meghan was a fashionista? The clothes she wore on the red carpets were meant to look sexy for Suits. Apart from those official events we saw her in pants, flats, sweaters, no Haute Couture.

    • All About Eve says:

I think some were too quick to proclaim Meghan as a fashion icon out of desperation!

It is time for all of us to admit that though Meghan has worn some nice outfits, she has also had a lot of misses in a short space of time.

    • Imeanreally says:

She appears to be struggling with “royal” style. There have been hits (wedding, garden party, outing w/HM) and misses (Trooping, and, IMO, despite the praise heaped on today’s outfit, Ascot). She’s having to learn a new style that is very different from Sexy or LA Chic. She’ll figure it out.

    • C. Remm says:

Yes, she will figure it out and it will take a little time. They have only been married for a month now. What do we expect? She has to get used in being among that upper class, that’s difficult enough. We shouldn’t be so impatient. 😉

    • magnoliarose says:

Fashion Icon? To earn any kind of icon title a person has to be hitting out of the park for years on end and it becomes a pattern. I don’t expect great things, especially at this point. Dressing as a royal is new. Take a look back at the Diana early years and that was some frightening stuff even for the 80s. It isn’t like she can just buy great clothes and wear them. There are so many rules and the hat thing is a hindrance.
Why not give the lady a chance to understand her role and how clothing photographs?

      • Deedee says:

Yes. I was complaining about Kate being called a fashion icon back in the “hit the ground running days” of yore. Declaring someone an icon requires the perspective of at least a decade or two.

    • Cher says:

      True.

  26. KiddV says:

I like it. It’s safe and pretty and I love her hat. Harry looks good in a top hat.

I like Sophie’s outfit, the hat pulls it together.

  27. Bettyrose says:

It feels like she’s been completely absorbed into their bland world of ritual and protocol. I said give her 6 months/year to find her footing and begin standing out. But I’m bored already.

    • Natalie S says:

I think (I hope) we’ll see something different once she starts visiting her own patronages.

Maybe we’ll also see something different in July.

      • harla says:

I agree Natalie. I think she will wear different outfits for her (or her and Harry’s) engagements as opposed to what she’ll wear while out with the Family, especially the Queen. At least I hope so.

    • homeslice says:

Her taste is just is just so bland to me. Even when Kate, Diana, Bea, Eug, Sophie do full on royal frumpery, they are still interesting…MM is just boring. From her wedding dress to now, I just don’t like her “style” at all.

    • Whaaaaaaatttt? says:

Agree – all she wears is black, white, cream. And everything is VERY expensive.

  28. Rainbow says:

The front of the dress is too creased. She needs to find a fabric that will hold and not crumple after sitting down.

I can’t believe this is bespoke. Or that it’s Givenchy. It’s just so plain and boring and such a departure from the past artistic designs.

I think if she’s gonna spend serious money on bespoke pieces, they should be classic and “recyclable”. Right now she’s very ‘trendy’ but that’s all.

    • minx says:

Yes, I said this yesterday with the tablecloth dress—it appears she’s trying to be on trend, even when it doesn’t work for her body.

    • Lizabeth says:

@Rainbow– I’m not sure those are creases. I think the embroidery/appliques look like creases from certain angles. DM has a ton of pictures and in those, it really doesn’t look creased around the waist.

I actually like the hem. I think I’d like the dress more if it didn’t have that sort of collar. A shirt collar seems too informal for the rest of the outfit. I also wonder with the waist detailing if the dress was meant to be worn with a belt (or maybe with a white matching sash belt instead?)

      • minx says:

Yes, I think the collar is ruining it for me. I might like it more if it was collarless.

      • Rainbow says:

Thanks! I saw the embroidery upon closer inspection.

But now the dress reminds me of a table cloth. The detailing is just so oddly placed, it’s in the same colour as the dress so it doesn’t even get noticed, and the combo of collar plus buttons and then uneven hemlines are too much. The dress just looks so…”wasteful”. Lots of unnecessary add-ons that don’t even work because the dress is white and you can’t see the work that was put into making the dress.

Make this dress seafoam green or light blue and it would be so much better. Anything to make it more exciting and eye-catching.

      • Coz' says:

I think it would look better if it was buttoned up. It would look less informal. I agree he belt is meh and ruins the embroidery a little bit.
The hem is what makes the dress interesting IMO.

  29. Lightpurple says:

Meghan’s dress looks super comfortable yet elegant and will still look good after sitting in it for hours. Great hat.

    Princess Anne is super cool.

  30. Masamf says:

Princess royal continues to looks more and more like her mother every single day that dawns on the sky. And if there’s still any doubt in anyone’s mind about prince Harry’s paternity, it should be put to rest. Harry (of the 2 brothers) looks more and more like his family as time passes and the brothers get older. Side by side with PoW, Harry is a spitting image of his father and you just look at PoW to know what Harry will look like at 70. Looking at the picture of him sitting beside his uncle, they look like identical twins, its just so weird.
I love Meghan’s look, all of it. i would have loved to see a bit of color on Ascot but when I look at Kate ascot debut dress that she wore 5 years into her marriage, it was cream, so I guess they prefer picking a neutral color for their debuts and bet bolder as they get more comfy. In regards to Meghan’s dress, hemline, etc, I’ve learn to take a lot of critic comments about her dresses that I read here with a huge spoonful of salt, the folks on here are so hard to please.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

You’d be surprised at how many people still believe the Harry is not Charles’s rubbish. Hewitt looked a lot like her brother as did Harry when he was younger, as he has gotten older the Windsor genes have come out and the resemblance to his grandfather became stronger. Harry gets the red hair from the Spencer’s, her brother is a ginger.

Sadly people believe whatever the Daily Fail tells them.

      • Liberty says:

There is a photo of a young Phillip in military hat and garb, and in the photo he is the spitting image of Harry.

Edit – lol I should have read one more comment before posting, Jan90067 has the same comment as well as the link, below!

    • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

If you’ve seen this pic, then you will see the total resemblance of Harry and DoE. I can’t believe people still bring up Hewitt. Harry was TWO when Diana started with him!

      Check it out: https://www.today.com/popculture/prince-philip-looks-grandson-prince-harry-1957-photo-t104389

      • Aurelia says:

Harry has phils close set eyes and his nose. I also saw a photo of Phil in black and white when he was aged 11. I nearly fell off my seat when I realised I was seeing Harrys double. I thought it was harry in a black and white photo.

  31. Mego says:

Everyone looks great! Even Bea and Eug. Love the Queen in yellow and Harry looks very dapper. Hope they have a fun day.

  32. WendyNerd says:

She looks like she is wearing a giant’s button-down shirt. It’s awful. Meghan needs a good stylist.

    • Sally says:

You made me laugh out loud!! Jack In The Beanstalk wants his shirt back.
You know, if I was in her position, I would set a trend to only wear up and coming unknown designers from all around the world. I don’t understand spending so much money on clothes when so many are in need. Meghan doesn’t need a stylist she just needs to stop dressing like she just got her first Sears credit card. She’s trying so hard and not dressing according to her body type.

      • Addie says:

I agree that Meghan would do well to dress in up-and-coming designers, especially British ones. Much of British fashion has always been edgy. In her position she can afford to champion emerging designers. I do think, though, she needs an experienced British stylist, one who is really chic, knows what is required of royal events and work with Meghan to curate a serviceable and smart wardrobe. At the moment, Meghan appears to be throwing money at everything expensive regardless of whether it fits, suits her or is right for the occasion. She seems to be channeling Audrey Hepburn but this does not suit her either; she hasn’t the charisma to do so.

Also, this kind of event is not work. Nor is a walkabout or just watching people prancing around like performing seals. Royals in general need to get down to some serious work for the public good rather than for their own PR.

  33. Nellyy says:

I give Sophie and Anne an A+. Meghan has C in my opinion. I advise her to hire her suits stylist ASAP. She’s looking more and more bland and boring. What we thought was her style savvy was actually her suits stylist dressing her for the red carpets. Imagine if Rihanna or JLo were Meghan, we would be struck with amazing style porn. But it’s been one bland style after the other.

    • Natalie S says:

      Rihanna or JLo?

She’s a newlywed in a family full of big egos. Now is not the time for her to give us style porn.

      • Nellyy says:

Natalie, remember Meghan was supposed to be more style savvy than all the royal women put together? She is supposed to be a ‘quick study’ who is always on point. I’m still surprised that she didn’t learn how to style herself from her suits stylist. So far, even Kate in her matronly attire seems to be more stylish. Marrying into the RF doesn’t mean you should be dressing in bland, ill fitted and boring clothes. Sophie is a royal and she looks very good. Anne looks same. Meghan who is supposed to be the style savvy icon has always looked ‘just there’. Given her exposure and experience in Hollywood, I’m amazed that a woman who has all the resources at her disposal can’t hire the best of the best to dress her. She’s still ‘finding her foot’ at 37 years old!!!!

      • Natalie S says:

Why was she supposed to be more stylish than all the Royal women put together? Say what now?

She got married about a month ago? Do we all want to back off and give her some breathing room?

Her outing with Liz was a success. That’s the point of her life now, not being a clothes horse for people

And there it is with the comparisons. I called it. It’s open season on comparing Meghan if she doesn’t come off well.

      • sass says:

@Nelly y This is not a red carpet this is royal ascot. It’s like comparing what someone wore to a pool party and wondering why they don’t look as good at work on monday. OMG i can’t.

    • PrincessK says:

I think Meghan is deliberately trying to be low key. If she dressed like her Suits character people would accuse her of flaunting her sex appeal.

  34. Naomi says:

I really don’t want to speculate on what’s happening in another lady’s womb but I actually think she maybe pregnant.

  35. Coz' says:

From what we can see it looks pretty.
But, more interresting to me : Harry changed his waistcoat!!!!!!

    • PrincessK says:

Yep I noticed that too. its the Meghan effect lol! But why has the blue waistcoat got white lining sticking out? Bad tailoring there too?

  36. Sparkly says:

I like the dress, and Harry sure looks nice in his pretties as well. They look really striking together.

  37. All About Eve says:

This is the best I’ve seen Anne look in a while!

  38. Natalie S says:

Look at the way Harry looks at Meghan!

    • SlightlyAnonny says:

Gosh yes! I think Meghan looks great but then I got to the last pic and my jaw nearly dropped, the look of just stupid love on Harry’s face just pierced my cold, dead heart. He adores her.

  39. Enn says:

I don’t love the hemline because I remember when it was popular 15ish years ago, so it comes off as dated to me (I’ve seen it in stores as well and thought the same thing). Otherwise I think she looks great!

I’d be dumping EW no matter what if I were Sophie.

  40. Rainbow says:

Wait…those aren’t creases on the bodice. They’re embroidery.

Now I cannot unsee that dress looking like a table cloth, from the thin fabric to the hemlines looking like ‘corners’ when you grab the middle of a table cloth and let it hang.

And honestly, this is the Ascot. If there were ever a time to go big and bold, this was it. Most royal ladies from other countries will likely be attending and I’m sure they’d be wearing something more colourful and exciting.

  41. Ghaia says:

Please Meghan. Can you stop with the cream coloured Givenchy outfits? So boring. Thank you in advance. You can keep the nice hat.

  42. Maria says:

The one who has been looking consistently good lately is Camilla, and I’m not a big fan. Love her outfit at trooping and today’s outfit is perfect, especially the hat.

    • Lady D says:

I’m a big fan of Camilla’s outfits. She usually knocks it out of the park.

    • Go Figure! says:

I’m not a fan of Camilla, but would someone please let Meghan raid either her or the Queen’s closet to pick out some really tasteful hats. Love the fact that the Queen, at 90 years of age, is so into color. Loved her choice of lime green that she wore to the wedding. This hat on Meghan is a bit of an improvement, but she could do so much better in the hat department.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I love Cams’s hat game, plus you can always count on her to bring the bling.

    • magnoliarose says:

She really has been looking good. I like Camilla’s hats more than anyone else’s usually. She brings a little Edwardian to her hat game.

    • Aurelia says:

Cam has consistantly looked fabbo since her wedding. Remember she looked smashing on her wedding day. Highpoint = I remember at Georgies christening she wore a pearl encrusted white coat. I nearly died and went to heaven. Cam knew her limitations and agreed to get a stylist. She needed to if she wanted to be accepted. I think Cam and Charlene of Monaco are the best dressed royals in the world.

  43. Jay says:

She’s gorgeous, but I dont’ like the dress. At all. It’s safe and boring and frankly reminds me of a cross between a handkerchief and a shuttlecock in badminton. Meh.

  44. Angelbear says:

I think leaving the top button undone is a mistake, not because it is that formal of an event that you need to be buttoned up but it seems sloppy. When you man is wearing tales, come dressed to the nines. As I said Ascot can be pretty relaxed, Meghan could have worn the tablecloth dress from the other day or something with cleavage.

  45. Babyb says:

    Downton abbey realness!
She’s dressing the part as she imagines it’d have to look on a tv show

Such a 180 and not the right direction.
Hopefully she’ll find her voice and stops looking like a child in grandma’s dresses.
Look at Diana Meghan !!! It’s okay to be stylish and fitted.

    • sass says:

Diana dresses terribly her beginning year in the RF. You go look at Diana.
Plus Diana did not have to deal with critics look these new duchesses do.

  46. Violet says:

Still too much cloth on a small girl, and a don’t care for the open-necked shirt effect at the top it takes the elegance down a notch, but a far, far better look than the de la Renta debacle, and I love the hat and thank you God sleekly done hair. Overall, she looks adorable.

I don’t know why she’s getting flak for looking too much like she’s dressing for a Downton Abbey part. This isn’t a “part”, this IS her life now, and this IS Ascot. Some traditions are worth observing!

All that said, the avoidance of British designers is going to cause some backlash, I think.

    • Rapunzel says:

Violet- Givenchy is being run by a British woman right now. So she is not avoiding British designers.

      • Rainbow says:

Givenchy is a French brand. Doesn’t matter who’s at the helm. It’ll always be a French brand.

She should branch out. Givenchy is already expensive, much more since it’s bespoke. But the designs don’t really flatter her or fit her very well. Maybe she can try some British designers next time.

      • Violet says:

@Rapunzel – I think Della, below, is right. The revenues, taxes, etc., are flowing to France, not Britain. France is paying Kelly, not Britain. Heads of companies come and go: the company itself is still French. Meghan is basically merching for a French company – new to her entry into a representative monarchy, this particular issue is beginning to stand out, for me, anyway.

      • Rapunzel says:

Della- I think you’re the one that needs to get a grip. It is a fact that she is wearing a British designer. The British designer maybe working for a French house, but that does not make her French.

      • minx says:

When the cost of the dress goes to a French company, it is not doing Britain any good.

      • Rapunzel says:

Violet- Look, if you have a problem with her wearing a brand located in a another country, that is a completely different thing. You should then say that you have a problem with her wearing a foreign companies product. You did not say that. You said she was avoiding British designers. This is an empirical lie. She is not avoiding British designers. She is wearing a British designer’s work even if it is for a French brand.

Not to mention, I think it’s ridiculous that you don’t respect Meghan’s decision to honor the fact that a British designer was actually chosen for a prestigious house of fashion. This is the first British designer chosen for this old, well-respected house. That’s significant. I see no problem with Megan respecting that by wearing that house’s clothes.

And let’s not lose sight of the fact that even if it is a British fashion House Megan was wearing and a completely British label, that does not necessarily mean that the product is made in Britain or supports British workers, etc. Many companies outsource.

        Stop with the ridiculous criticisms.

      • Rapunzel says:

Minx- A British woman is making money off designing these clothes for that French house. Ergo, yes it does benefit Britain.

      • Violet says:

@Rapunzel – these are not ridiculous criticisms, they go to her job as a British royal, I’m far from the only person on blogs who has noticed this, and the dress says, “Givenchy” not “Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy”. It’s the principle of the thing. She does appear to be avoiding British designers and she appears that way because she is constantly wearing the brands of foreign companies. The perception is the same to the public. And she hasn’t “decided to honor the fact that a British designer was actually chosen for a prestigious house of fashion”. That’s a ridiculous assertion. She’s deciding to wear the clothes she likes best, regardless of the nationality of the company that produces them, period.

British taxpayers are paying for her very luxurious wardrobe. She owes something back at least in perception. That would be my view, were I British. It’s not a ridiculous issue.

Oh, and the British woman’s salary is paid by the French company – I doubt she’s working on commission. The advertising by Meghan of Givenchy’s clothes makes the British woman look good, but it’s British taxpayers and workers who need the benefits, not the highly paid head of the French company.

      • minx says:

Rapunzel—But the money is not going to a British company. Any praise and money benefit the designer and her house, not anyone in Britain. If I were British I might want some return on my “investment” of keeping the RF in lavish comfort.

      • PrincessK says:

Well we are still in the EU…at least for now.

    • magnoliarose says:

You mean a British design house, not a British designer.
She is honoring the accomplishments of a British designer. It is a prestigious recognition and the nationality is always noted when a head designer is chosen for a very established old prestigious design house.
This argument seems like trying to find a fault or problem about something that really doesn’t exist. I don’t see the money connection at all and it is simply reaching.
Profits from very high-end fashion houses don’t trickle down to the country of origin. LMVH owns Givenchy and Kering owns McQueen and both are headquartered in Paris. Kering is run by Salma Hayek’s husband, François-Henri Pinault.
So it comes down to the designer’s nationality.
Burberry is fully British and so is the UK’s only haute couture house Ralph and Russo but everyone acted so pretend miffed about the engagement dress that they didn’t end up getting the gig to dress her as often. Shame because they would be better than Givenchy.

      • Violet says:

@magnoliarose – thanks for this info, it is very interesting. I know who LMVH are as a friend of mine used to do direct mail for companies like Moet & Chandon. LMVH seems to be buying up the world. Funny you should mention Pinault: I always thought that’s the kind of man Meghan should have been after. So much more money and so much more privacy and so much less headache!

I agree that Ralph and Russo would suit her better, from what I’ve seen.

But I do think that the “perception” issue still stands – how many people see the name “Givenchy” when they glance at the coverage of Ascot in the DM and think, “Oh, LMVH owns them, anyway, and the head designer if British, so no problem.”?

Does anything, ever, trickle down to local workers and taxpayers, anywhere, anymore?!

      • Becks1 says:

Good point MagnoliaRose. Ralph and Russo got a lot of buzz for the engagement dress.

I don’t think she is snubbing British designers, but I think she is trying to figure out what works for her. If she came out in all Jenny Packham, Goat, McQueen etc people would just keep comparing her to Kate. We do it anyway, but if they were using the same designers consistently it would really be obvious. I imagine we will see more overlap as time goes on, but at this point I can understand why she is trying to find her own relationships with designers.

      • minx says:

Honestly, the R & R engagement dress was a smash hit next to these recent outfits. It fit her and she looked beautiful.

      • magnoliarose says:

R and R would get it right because they are couture and would understand the matter of tailoring much better.

        @Violet
I think she needs to find small new British designers who keep it all in the UK. These big conglomerates eat up the labels and take the profits with them. She should go full UK or bust with her choices. I hope she understands she has an opportunity to help people in some way by supporting the UK by way of fashion. If she did this these designers could hire people and open shops based off her wearing their looks.

        @minx
Lol I know right and I didn’t even LOVE that dress but it fit her and she looked radiant in it.

      • windyriver says:

One of the interesting aspects of her pre-wedding events was the spotlight on British designers; there’s no reason to believe this won’t continue in the future. Huit Denim jeans, Strathberry and Charlotte Elizabeth purses come to mind, and it appears they got quite a boost from the exposure. She also wore Burberry, Amanda Wakely, Emilia Wickstead, Victoria Beckham. The garden party dress was GOAT.

Meghan’s had four recent high profile events which included the Queen and/or the POW, and she’s only been married a month. Maybe she asked Givenchy to whip up a couple of outfits since they already had her measurements for the wedding dress. The cape dress for the train trip is a variation on a style in their spring collection, worn by Rooney Mara for the Met Gala. The dress she wore to the family wedding this last weekend was Oscar de la Renta, who also dressed her mom for the royal wedding; maybe there’s a connection there as well.

With the wedding and these big events behind her, I’ll look forward to seeing what she chooses for the upcoming trips to Ireland and Australia/NZ.

Some of her recent choices aren’t great (hated that floral dress), and I agree fit can be an issue, but I’m glad she so far hasn’t gone the coat/dress route a la the Queen, Camilla, and Kate. However well put together, and colorful, to me those outfits are totally boring, and I hate the hats.

I liked Meghan’s hat today, and what looks like the nod to My Fair Lady; I’m curious if that’s what she intended…

      • sass says:

I think it’s as simple as, she trusts CWK and they have a good working relationship. She is in a new country with a lot of craziness around her she need people she can count on. Plus CWK didn’t even tell her husband she was doing the royal wedding dress.
Plus British designers are publicly talking shit about her in the papers, so am sure they are doing worse things in private.
There is no shame in rewarding people that are good to you.

      • silver says:

There’s more than one British designer in the UK, you know… lol. One designer talking crap doesn’t exclude everybody else.

Meghan sort of has Jolie’s body type and she looks great in R&R. Their outfits would’ve really worked for Meghan, and they’re British! I just think she went a bit too OTT with the official Haute couture engagement pics which caused all the uproar. Something like Eugenie’s engagement pic dress would have been fine. Then leave the couture for their private engagement pics. The optics weren’t good (regardless of how much was paid) and it came off as being unnecessarily lavish for a future member. I think due to that debacle R&R won’t be dressing her anytime soon!

  47. Violet says:

Is that Pss. Beatrice in blue behind her in the nude heels? From the back, at least, Bea looks like she actually chose pretty clothes today.

    • formerly known as Amy says:

Bea looked matronly to me. OMG i hope MM never dresses like that.

  48. Cerys says:

I quite liked this dress. I still think she looks better in a more tailored style but I thought she looked good today. I liked the hat too.
She certainly likes designer labels like Kate so the Duchy credit card will be taking a few hits. Camilla, Sophie, and Anne all looked nice too.

  49. Violet says:

Gracious, after coming down so hard on the de la Renta, I seem to be the only person here who thinks Meghan looks really sweet! The people who aren’t wearing “boring” clothes are the ones outside the enclosure who are there to shock, not represent the BRF. What do you all want from her?! And it’s the best hat she’s worn yet! The color scheme is properly carried through, the belt works, the shoes work – OK, it’s a bit long.

Though, one other note: she again has applied either bronzer or blush with a trowel, probably because of the size of the hat brim. Not necessary, Meghan – you only draw the eye toward the makeup, not your face.

    • YankLynn says:

Violet – I did take a closer look at one shot too where the bronzer looked too heavy but I think it just might be shadows and photo emphasis. In other head on shots with different lighting (pictures from other sites) her makeup is very natural and translucent. People have been commenting on how dark her make up is since the Trooping but I think she got sun and tanned some just prior to that event and folks are mistaking the tan complexion for “too much bronzer”. Is my guess anyway 🙂 You can stare at all kinds of photos and think something different on each one.

      • sass says:

She is darker because it’s summer and they were honeymooning. I thought this was established previously.

  50. joannie says:

I like her dress. But again not on her. She doesn’t have the height to carry it off. Anyway this whole thing looks like a snooze fest other than the hats.

  51. AnnaKist says:

Love these photos. Look at the Queen – she’s glorious! She is a woman who can wear any colour of the rainbow, and is always so immaculate. Princess Anne looks great, and how nice to see her beside her mum. Even Camilla looks nice. I don’t like Meghan’s outfit from neck to hip… aaaargh! Those bloody buttons. The rest of her is lovely. Sophie is her usual stylish and elegant self. The men look great, too. Shame about poor Beatrice, snapped in the wrong moment. She looks very frumpy, compared to the other ladies, and I hate picking on other women.

  52. Jayna says:

It’s just a boring royal appearance. This is one of the few times she looks comfortable in a hat. As an American, it must take some getting used to. The dress is fine on her. The hem in the straight-on view in the link is atrocious.

I’ve loved her casual style appearances, the plaid Off-the-
shoulder top with black pants, loved her black suit, loved her dress with the blazer, loved the black cocktail dress off one shoulder, loved the sleeveless black dress at some memorial, liked her blue dress in the Tv interview with Kate and William. She’s done fine for the most part. The pale pink outfits were nice and appropriate. This outfit is appropriate. But I do miss Rachel Zane. Meghan is now at times going to be as bland and boring dressed as all the royals are known to be. She will still shine more in casual wear, love her in pants, and let’s hope evening gowns she will have style.

  53. Natalie S says:

Is there a British designer who does what Ralph Lauren does? Because sophisticated American sportswear with some romanticism and a little glam, but for Meghan by way of California, seems to be the look she’s going for. Ralph would be able to set her up right but Meghan wouldn’t be able to keep wearing an American designer.

    • Imeanreally says:

      Great advice.

    • StartupSpouse says:

I was thinking the same. The RL Collection is always spectacular and would be perfect for her, but she probably can’t wear him consistently…

    • Violet says:

@Natalie – perhaps she feels British designers don’t cut for her kind of figure, and just needs to look around more and perhaps get some bespoke items made just for her by someone like McQueen or Packham of Walker (is Walker still designing with the loss of Catherine Walker?). Some firms just cut better for tall girls, or for curvy girls, or skinny girls. If so, she needs to sit down with some reps and talk about what she needs and see if they can come up with a few items that work for her.

    • magnoliarose says:

Not really. The closest is Burberry and that is different. American fashion is known for that aesthetic. No one even comes close to doing it as well. Sporty chic elegance is total American. Kate would look great in American fashion because she looks best sportier but the Brits aren’t very good at that so she doesn’t wear it. It all looks either like someone is going to a country party to ride all weekend or very plain.

      • Violet says:

@magnoliarose – well, as she was born American the public perception issue might be softer.

But I agree that both Meghan and Kate would probably look good in American designs.

That beautiful lilac-colored chiffon dress with the silver gilt belt that Kate wore to the Hollywood thing in L.A. on that first tour of North America right after they got married in 2011 – that was McQueen also, I think. She did look absolutely stunning in that although I’m not sure she could wear it now – it was a very youthful look.

So Meghan needs to develop a partnership with a designer over a long time, the way Kate has with McQueen and Packham and Walker. It looks like she’s setting out to do that with Givenchy.

And then again, these days, who knows what the public cares about or not? Maybe they don’t care at all, anymore.

      • magnoliarose says:

I think what hurts Kate’s fashion sense is that it isn’t really her natural style. She always looks like she is dressing in someone else’s clothes and isn’t feeling secure or comfortable. When she is sporty she looks happy but she wears sporty less and less lately.
I agree with you. I think both women would look better in something like Ralph Lauren or some of Calvin Klein’s better looks.
Kate would look great in a sporty white pantsuit with heels.

    • Countess of Seemsy says:

totally agree regarding American fashion. I have always thought 90s-era Michael Kors would be a great match for Meghan. Remember the truly iconic looks he created for Rene Russo in “The Thomas Crown Affair”? Meghan would look great in everything from that movie. Ralph Lauren, old school Donna Karan and Calvin Klein would also give her that tailored-but-still-glam Carolyn Bessette aesthetic she looks best in. Mix in some Roland Mouret, some British up-and-coming designers and some high street, and swear off Erdem for good. Then get a dresser as skilled as Angela Kelly to fix everything for her petite short-waisted frame and presto, she’d look gorgeous, classic and womanly (not girly) every time. The “boho chic” aesthetic beloved of 20something British aristos MUST DIE and it’s particularly wrong for Meghan IMO (doesn’t do Kate any favors either – she’s got a million floaty long-sleeved dresses from Beulah and they all give off 70’s Endora from Bewitched vibes).

  54. Sara says:

    I like the hat.

  55. KEEKS says:

great hat, dress sucks, as usual. Hire a stylist Megs, you are not choosing well. even if it’s a givenchy, it’s too casual compared to the rest of them. sorry, another fail.

    • formerly known as Amy says:

OMG hope she doesn’t follow your advise and starts wearing coat dresses.

  56. LittlefishMom says:

I love how he’s looking at her on the last photo.

    • Gin says:

@LittlefishMom I don’t see him looking at her here. I am seeing him looking past her but they do have some other pics where you can tell he simply adores her. They seriously are my favorite couple right now.

  57. Gia says:

I love Meghan but her nose job really changed her face. Just google Meghan Markle at a 2006 Great Chefs of LA event. She was 25 and her face looked so different, she looked almost identical to Pippa.

    • minx says:

I preferred her pre-nose job look, I thought she was beautiful, but they did a good job of following the contours of her real nose. And I can’t blame her, seems like every actress or female in the public eye gets her nose done.

    • Violet says:

@Gia @Minx – sadly, this is the norm in show business, not the exception. Women cannot escape the notion that they need to be “fixed” before they are acceptable. I know male actors do it, as well, but it’s a safe bet the pressure on women is bigger.

Can you imagine if someone had forced Sophia Loren to get her nose done?!

  58. Belluga says:

Like the dress, love the hat. That’s a great hat!

I think we’ll see a marked fashion difference between her “royalty on show” events and her “royalty at work” events. Practically all of her engagements since the wedding have been the former: Charles’s garden party, the Trooping, Ascot. Those are the type of events where there’ll be a learning curve as there’s no equivalent across the pond.

The engagements with Harry before the wedding were very much the latter, where a more standard professional wardrobe works better, which is what we saw from her.

  59. Pandy says:

I dunno. I look at her and think “your country is burning” but hey, nice you trot around in givenchy.

    • Violet says:

@Pandy – um, which of her countries did you mean? The one she was born in or the one she is seeking citizenship in? Because, if the US, I can tell you her parading around in Givenchy don’t mean squat, it has no bearing on what’s happening here, and we’ve got quite a few more heavy-duty problems than a former TV actress who married into the BRF wearing (surprise!), BRF type clothes. She isn’t the appointed savior of the USA.

If you mean the UK – well, some of the British posters can speak to your comment.

  60. Imeanreally says:

Camilla looks fabulous. That’s how it’s done.

  61. mela says:

Her bronzer is way too dark for her.

This dress swallows her too. How about some color and something that flatters her figure? The last two dresses she’s worn do nothing for her figure.

  62. Thatsallfolks says:

Her dress sense and makeup is getting worse each appearance.

  63. manta says:

OMG the horror buttons from top to bottom.
    What was she thinking?
Oops ,I forgot ,buttons are evil things only on her sister in law.

  64. magnoliarose says:

Brush up on who OWNS those design houses. McQueen is owned by a French company. Nothing British about it anymore except Sarah Burton. Sort of like Givenchy who is also owned by a French company whose designer is British.

My comment was meant for someone else but ended up a standalone. My post wasn’t directed at Kaiser.

    • Maum says:

It doesn’t matter who owns the brands, it’s name recognition.
Givenchy, Dior, Chanel… Are quintessential French fashion houses. They have had various foreign designers but ultimately they represent French fashion.

      • Violet says:

@Maum – ITA. Perception is what counts. You can get posters here to brush up, but the general public? Not so sure.

      • minx says:

        Exactly.

      • magnoliarose says:

That is nitpicking when the designer of Givenchy is the one whose name is being used to recognize who is dressing her. Just like Stella McCartney used to design for Chloe and is now on her own.
Clare Waight Teller is the first woman to be at the helm of Givenchy after designers Galliano and Alexander did the same. She will most likely strike out on her own with Meghan as a sort of patron.
She’s supporting a British designer who is making fashion history.
I wouldn’t have chosen this tack but I don’t think it is a problem either.

  65. me says:

Have they gone on their honeymoon yet?

    • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

He looks at her like he still can’t believe his luck that she chose him 😍. LOVE it! 😊

  66. Lexa says:

Love the hat, not terribly impressed with the dress, but it’s perfectly fine and looks comfortable for this event.

If Kate is the Duchess of Buttons, I wonder if Meghan will ultimately prove to be the Duchess of Belts?

  67. Andrea says:

Is it just me or if we black and white the photo, it looks like something from the turn of the century circa 1900? Why does she wear these baggy dresses when she’s thin?

  68. Bitsy says:

Let’s state the obvious: we’re all hoping for a Diana repeat and we’re disappointed as we slowly realize IT. AIN’T. HAPPENIN.
I have a pinterest dedicated to Diana’s fashion, and a lot of what she wore then is still stylish today. She dressed for her body, loved color, had short hair, and showed cleavage every now and then. Everything Royals caution against.
Neither Kate nor Meg will ever give us what we want because both their husbands chose them so as to give exactly the opposite. These people do not want a world famous fashion icon who can really connect with the public. No no no. And I bet that as soon as she has kids, she will become even more dowdy.
But her dowdiness does not take away from her looks, surprisingly. She always looks so darn gorgeous!

    • Maria says:

Diana was pretty dowdy in the beginning. She started to look chic after her separation.

      • Jan90067(aka imqrious2) says:

Diana became more daring (with clevage/designs) after the separation, true. But she was chic way before.

After both boys were born, Diana contacted the head of Vogue and got some serious advice and started dressing MUCH better and MUCH more adventurous with color and design. But she REALLY came into her own after the separation. Sigh… She was really one of a kind.

      • Nellyy says:

Maria, good point. Diana married at 19, an inexperienced teen. Kate married in her 20s. Meghan was hyped as someone who was bringing her decades of experience as an independent working 36 year old woman who has spent years in Hollywood to the table. Going by the resume of these wives, Meghan should ordinarily be the most style savvy among all of them including Sohpie.
A 36 year old working independent Hollywood actress should know about style better than a 19 year old Diana or 20 something year old Kate who never held a job but spent 10years chasing a man.
If at 36, she doesn’t know what fits her body, then when will she know?

      • harla says:

Nellyy, Kate was 29 when she got married

      • sass says:

Has anyone taken the time to critic every wrinkle in oh those superb diana clothes or the buttons. You are chasing a ghost even Diana breathing and walking right now would not live up to your expectations. MM is the only royal whose clothes i would like to wear.
        Maybe it’s an age thing.

      • PrincessK says:

Meghan at 36 has her own style and knows what fits and ‘Suits’ her, the problem is that her style is not RF style so she is navigating her way to find a happy medium, she will get there eventually, and lets face it the outfit she wore on her solo outing with the Queen was a winner.

    • Sage says:

I was definitely NOT hoping for a Diana repeat. I find it creepy as hell that people are projecting their Diana fantasies onto Kate and Meghan. Creepy!!

    • Violet says:

@Bitsy – I wasn’t! I think Diana and first, I think tragedy, what good did all the fashion do her? And she wore some really awful stuff, too. And she was also married to Charles who had so much more money than Harry. Charles may be paying for hers and Kate’s clothes, but not the way he would spend on his wife. And that bear rug hair style she went through?!

And all that said, like Meghan, Diana also had an uninteresting center, not much of a waist. She was kind of dull between the shoulders and hips. But she was 5’10″+ and oh my god those legs, those unbelievable legs, and that fantastic complexion and eyes you could see a mile off! So even in her “mistakes” she was always worth looking at. It was Vogue that got her to stop trying to give herself a waist with detail and move the focus to her legs, hair, and face.

Meghan needs to do the same thing, find out where the area of focus should be.

But another Diana? No, please. Let’s hope for a better happier marriage for Meghan, with less clothes fascination and more contentment.

      • magnoliarose says:

        Agreed Violet.
Diana took time to find her way and get some advice.
Meghan’s issue is she doesn’t know how to dress for her shape yet and should take the photos and spread them out and see for herself. She needs to learn her angles for her new dress code.

      • Bitsy says:

@Violet calm down. I was not going that deep. I’m talking style, and Di had plenty. Transfer those outfits to today with a millenial edge and they’d still be amazing. And few women have perfect bodies. But stylish women know how to dress for their bodies. Di knew what worked.
Thats all I was saying. Not referencing the drama. At all.

      • silver says:

But she’s nearly 37, how can she not know how to dress for her shape? She’s had a professional stylist styling her for years. I honestly don’t understand. Didn’t she take tips from the Suits stylist? She looked great on Suits even though it’s not her actual style. Her off-duty looks weren’t very stylish but just casual. I don’t know where she got the label fashionista from, but with a Royal allowance, she should be doing better. Give it time, I guess.

      • formerly known as Amy says:

With Diana you are comparing a body of work to day clothes of women. If we put every single outfit that Diana in the way we do with the duchesses. She would fail too. The problem is kate doesn flood fggghgfgh

  69. Maria says:

where are the others? Like that awful Princess Michael. She loves to be seen. And Carole? I’d love to see Pippa in a maternity dress. Do they usually attend Ascot?

  70. Nellyy says:

Bitsy, valid points you made. I said from the get go when Keen Kate was trashed for her keen buttons and was told to get style tips from Meghan that we should lower our expectations about Meghan because we didn’t really know who she was before she met Harry and therefore cannot say she had great style.

People saw her red carpet pictures during her press tour for suits and her character on TV and assumed she had great style. Many forgot most of what she wore was a result of the professional stylists on suit. If she wasn’t praises to the high heavens, many would not have been disappointed about her style. We are now saying we should give her time to get her bearing right. Lol.

  71. MeghanNotMarkle says:

I kind of like the dress but not for Ascot. There’s a whole lot going on. Lose the embroidery and it would be the perfect summer party dress. LOVE the hat but it deserves a more worthy dress. Why all the blerghy neutrals? It’s Ascot, time to shine!

Harry’s tie is wrinkled. Like he dumped it on the floor after the weekend wedding and picked it up this morning to wear.

  72. penelope says:

I like Meghan but her fashion choices have mystified me–she doesn’t dress for her body type at all. Oh, well. She’s gorgeous anyhow.

  73. Lucy says:

Too much cheek makeup, daytime smokey eye, super-defined brow. Great hat, boring overpriced dress. Meghan has gone full Kate.

    • silver says:

Yeah, I said the same. She’s going the same way as Kate. Some people don’t want to see it lol

      • MeghanNotMarkle says:

I don’t want to see it but there it is. After being hoodwinked by the promised second coming with Katie Keen I have remained open in my assessment of Meghan. I was hoping for more but so far she’s just Kate 2.0 in terms of wasteful spending on ugly, ill-fitting clothes. I liked the dress at first but then I saw other pictures and find the whole thing hideous. The embroidery is wrong and the hat and dress aren’t even the same white. One is off-white and one is pure white. Nothing to see here.

Other pictures are even more unflattering.
Why does she choose outfits for someone with different figure? She’s petite, next to Harry she looks like a malnourished kid! The shoes are terrible as well. Meghan, whyyyyyy!

I don’t understand why Sophie has to ditch Emilia Wickstead because the latter didn’t have the courtesy to keep her maw shut. Sophie probably has the clothes picked out or purchased in advance, and she looks good wearing them. F-ck Emilia Wickstead and all, but it’s like, if I bought something I might as well wear it, y’know?

Meghan looks good. No lace thank goodness. She’ll always get points from me for not dressing like a doily. I think Kate struggles with “getting it right” as well. Her pre-wedding fashion was young and fresh, whereas her Duchess outfits with the lace and buttons are not. I wouldn’t be surprised if she overdoes the lace and the buttons precisely because she has no imagination and can’t figure out what to wear that’s appropriate but still interesting.

I love it. It is kind of a shirt dress, but it’s a dressy shirt dress, if that makes sense, and it goes with her hat and heels. I think her personal style is more California casual, but she has to dress like a member of the BRF and she’s trying to find a way to do that while still wear things she likes. This is a much better attempt than at the wedding and I think this is sort of the direction she should go.

As for the Givenchy, maybe she’s just close with the designer. I’m assuming they met a lot over her wedding dress and I think they give her dresses that are more her personal style but still look professional enough. I lived her wedding dress and this dress, so maybe she should stick with them until she gets a bit more comfortable with her new style expectations

  77. Nina says:

No to the dress. I like the hat.

  78. Katebush says:

I like the hat and her hair looks lovely so much better than the weekend wedding look.
I don’t like the dress , she seems to love Givenchy but I’m not sure why as they don’t seem to flatter her figure.
I think the shirt dress style is too informal for Ascot and personally I would love to see her champion some lesser known British Designers.

I am also surprised to see Sophie in Wickstead. That said, Kate wore Chanel after what Krusty Karl said about Pippa.

  80. Patty says:

I just made a similar comment in another post. She doesn’t know how to dress for her body. Her character on Suits was well dressed. MM not so much.

  81. Sofia says:

The hat is a pure white compared to the cream dress, which irked me. Agree with everyone who said her dress looks like a hanky or tablecloth. I’m hoping this is just an awkward phase and that she gets it together soon.

  82. Esme says:

you guys, I figured out why the long skirts two times in a row. (cousin’s wedding, and now Ascot)

Cause she gets to go bare legged without people getting on her about it!

also, sometimes you just want to be a little more comfortable and more covered up, and not in something fitted. that’s legit.

  83. Mego says:

Just jumped back on the say that after looking at a lot of pictures Princess Eugenie looked outstanding and her outfit , hair and makeup were flawless. My vote for best dressed member of the royal family at The opening day of Ascot 2018.

You now may return to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex scrutiny…

P.S. Love Meg’s sleek updo and was pleased to not see the hair touching!

    • PrincessK says:

Front pages of the British newspapers are being very kind to Meghan, after her father’s dreadful interview, and they are saying she stole the show at Ascot.

      • Mego says:

Meghan is a very resiliant person who is able to get on and be present to others despite whatever emotional upheaval she has experienced that day. People admire her for it and rightly so. It is a characteristic of someone who is not self absorbed.

  84. Anare says:

I love her whole look. The hat is fab, perfect on her. The dress is refreshing and elegant. It’s a far cry from a “serviceable” shirtwaist dress. Harry looks a little rumpled. Same suit he wore at cousins wedding. Maybe it ended up on the floor and he rummaged around for it for Ascot. He’s a doll rumpled or not.
    Charles looked quite dapper.

  85. Busyann says:

I wonder if this dress was created from the fabric of her wedding dress and veil? The lace looks like it could have come from the veil. The more I I look at that dress the more I love it.

  86. Marnie says:

What a frumpy and boring outfit. I wish she would take tips from whoever styled her character on Suits.
