Donald Trump's Fat Phobia Over the Years: from '400-Lb.' Hackers to 'Miss Piggy'

Donald Trump caused an uproar during the presidential debate Monday night when he generalized hackers as someone who “weighs 400 lbs.”

After Hillary Clinton mentioned that intelligence officials have “high confidence” that Russia was involved with the recent hack into the Democratic National Committee’s servers, Trump instead argued that it could have been anyone.

“She’s saying Russia, Russia, Russia. But I don’t – maybe it was. I mean, it could be Russia, but it could also be China. It could also be lots of other people. It also could be somebody sitting on their bed that weighs 400 lbs.,” Trump responded. “You don’t know who broke into DNC.”

His comment took off on Twitter, with people calling Trump out for body shaming.

This is far from the first time Trump, who is overweight himself according to his medical records, has used weight as a critique. Later in the debate Clinton brought up former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, whom Trump called “Miss Piggy” after she gained weight following her win in 1996.

“When she brought up the person, I know that person, that person was a Miss Universe person, and she was the worst we ever had,” Trump said Tuesday morning on Fox & Friends. “She was the winner, and she gained a massive amount of weight, and it was a real problem.”

But Trump’s barbs aren’t just reserved for his opponents – one of Trump’s former employees, Louise Sunshine, recently recalled how the real estate mogul used to keep an unflattering photo – a “fat picture,” in Sunshine’s words – in his desk drawer to pull out whenever she did something wrong.

The photo was “a reminder that I wasn’t perfect,” Sunshine told the Washington Post. “He just is that way.”

But Sunshine has always been a fan of Trump’s, and says that she supports him for president, even though the “fat picture” sticks in her mind – she finds it helpful.

“When I gain weight, I think of that picture,” Sunshine said. “It was quite a good idea.”

And at one of Trump’s rallies in Worcester, Massachusetts last November, he talked about food stamps to noise from the crowd.

“You know, it’s amazing. I mentioned food stamps and that guy who’s seriously overweight went crazy. He went crazy. It’s amazing,” Trump said to the audience.

Trump also brought up Rosie O’Donnell unprompted during Monday’s debate, one of his frequent sparring partners.

“I said very tough things to her and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her,” Trump said Monday night.

After O’Donnell called out Trump for going into bankruptcy in 2006, he told PEOPLE that O’Donnell was “a woman out of control” and “a real loser.”

“Rosie’s a loser. A real loser. I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Rosie,” he said at the time.
