National Digital Learning Week 2017:  Connecting with the world of work

Let’s Talk!  DYW Yammer group

Gender stereotypes primary school competition

The Institute of Physics is running a competition for primary pupils to find out what they think of gender stereotypes. The winning teams will win individual prizes for the pupils and a trophy for the school. The competition closes on 31 May and more information is available online.

Skills Development Scotland

Centre for Work-based Learning established

The Centre launched at Leonardo’s in Edinburgh, aims to establish the value of work-based learning in the education and training system as well as championing the contribution it can make to increasing productivity and supporting inclusive economic growth. 

                                      

My World of Work: New ‘pathways’ feature support the search for jobs 
The new feature is changing the way our users can search for, filter and explore job profiles.   By grouping jobs together into 6 categories searching for jobs according to skills enhanced.


Cracking career conversations
Having career conversations with children and young people can be tricky.
That’s why Skills Development Scotland and the National Parent Forum of Scotland have teamed up on two new career conversation ‘nutshell’ guides.



Digital matching service linking schools and employers

SDS is linking up with The Hunter Foundation on its digital matchmaking service for schools, colleges and employers.

Is free, one-stop shop for collaboration between employers and young people through their teachers and lecturers.


Early Learning & Childcare Sector must target recruitment

Attracting a more diverse workforce has to be a top priority for the Early Learning and Childcare sector in Scotland.  SDS has published its Early Learning and Childcare Skills Investment Plan Prospectus in partnership with industry, which lays out high level targets for the sector.


Digital Foundation Apprenticeships can help bridge skills gap
Foundation Apprenticeships allow young people to start getting industry skills while still at school.  This year, three new digital Foundation Apprenticeships will be available covering Hardware, Software and Creative & Digital.

Raising Attainment through Partnerships Conference

This year the annual CLASS ( College Liaison in Association with Scottish Schools) conference will be of interest to all practitioners working within the Senior Phase from colleges, schools and local authorities in Scotland.  We will explore how DYW and our quality school college partnerships can support raising attainment.  Further information and booking here.

CDN College Awards 2017- Call for Entries

College Development Network is seeking entries for this year's CDN College Awards. The deadline date for entries is Friday 7 July 2017. 

Scotland’s Enterprising Schools:  Supporting career education from 3 – 18

Scotland’s Enterprising Schools are offering wide-ranging support to schools to help develop young people’s enterprise and employability skills. This includes classroom resources, interesting practice exemplars, CPD sessions etc.

Festival of Youth Enterprise

Young Enterprise Scotland is hosting the first national Festival of Youth Enterprise, 5 - 6 June. This will feature our broad range of enterprise activities, our supporters, the enterprise network and young people from across Scotland

Two YES Programmes receive DYW Awards

The North East Company Programme as well as Bridge 2 Business through the efforts of the YES delivery partner Elevator UK have both  been awarded the DYW Quality Accreditation at Silver Level by DYW North East Group. Find more here.
