Brackets for Good nonprofit competitors raise $18,000 so far

Sixty Hartford area nonprofits have raised more than $18,000 in the Brackets for Good competitive fundraising tournament in the first round so far, organizers said Thursday.

Round one ends Friday at 8 p.m., at which point nonprofits with the most money in their head-to-head matchups will advance to the second round. Each nonprofit keeps the money raised in round one, whether they advance or not.

So far, organizers said, more money has been contributed in Hartford than in any of the other nine participating cities.

Some matchups are close, going into the final day of round one:

  • $37 separates Community Partners in Action and Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation;
  • $100 separates Leadership Greater Hartford and Boys & Girls Club of Bristol; and
  • $241 separates Hartford City Mission and Children’s Law Center.

Participating nonprofits rally enthusiastic donors to out-fundraise their opponents in order to advance in the tournament. Dollars from donors translate to points as participants advance in their markets. Competing nonprofits keep donations received during tournament play. The winning organization will receive an additional $10,000 championship grant.
