On October, 28, Utah-based Powder Mountain announced the addition of two new lifts that will provide access to over 1,000 acres of new terrain.
This will be the largest lift-serviced expansion in North American history.
The resort is also capping season and day passes, which will increase the amount of acreage per skier. Because of this, Powder Mountain will have the lowest skier density of any major ski area in North America.
The two new lifts (said to be installed in December) will come with six miles of new roads and a new town. The roads will connect the existing resort to the new town location—which rests on a saddle at 8,600 feet intersecting the top three bowls. The new town was modeled after the Swiss town of Wengen and will be similar in size to downtown Aspen and Telluride.
For years Pow Mow has been one of those underappreciated "secret spots" near Ogden, Utah, and I'm interested to see how this expansion affects that.
The newness:
- 2 New SkyTrac Lifts: Village Lift & Mary’s Lift
- Over 1000 Acres of New Lift Serviced Terrain
- 4 Lift Accessible Side Country Areas
- 7900+ Lift Accessible Skiable Acres - Largest in U.S.
- 8,464 Total Skiable Acres
- Lowest skier density of any major ski area in North America
- Day Tickets Limited to 2,000 per Day
- Adult Season Passes Limited to 1,000

This is the future of ski towns in America, Utah is growing and it is such a great idea to build a ski town around a new idea. The Odgen Valley is beautiful with Snowbasin right there, a new cat skiing operation (Whisper Ridge Cat Skiing) that is 30,000 acres, more action sports businesses moving to nearby Odgen, and a creative group investing in Pow Mow, the sky is the limit. It will amazing to watch this area grow.
