Foundation work starts for Wolf Point East tower

Construction crews have started drilling into the earth to plant foundation caissons

Work on the upcoming 60-story Wolf Point East skyscraper has started in earnest. This week, construction crews with Case Foundation were spotted on the site of the new tower, drilling into bedrock to plant the long steel structures that will hold the tower in place. While it’ll take much more time for the tower to take shape, the work being performed this week is a sure sign that things are moving along and that the Pelli Clarke Pelli-designed tower is no pipe dream.

Originally zoned to rise 750 feet and contain 707 dwelling units, the plan was modified last fall to instead top-out around 660 feet and deliver 698 rental apartments. However, the unused density could still be transferred over to the mega-project’s third and final building—a 950-foot skyscraper which will stand between Wolf Point West and Wolf Point East at the river’s edge.

Crews began clearing the site for Wolf Point East earlier this month, removing any underground debris that could interfere with the new building’s below-ground caissons. Construction will continue for the next two years as units are expected to be delivered by late 2019.
