There’s nothing fancy about “Beheaded”, Conan’s 17-minute side of a forthcoming split LP with fellow deep-breathers Bongripper. The guitar and bass fade in slowly over a gathering drum cavalcade, with the purr of the amps arriving and rising before the first note is even played. When the riff finally arrives, get used to it, because for most of this lengthy run time, bassist Phil Coumbe and guitarist Jon Davis paw at it constantly, repeating it like a mantra. They avoid solos and accessories, using their simple three-piece setup to baptize with impeccable tone and unapologetic volume. Turn it up and surrender, because the louder you hear this, the better it will feel. Holy Roar Records will release the Conan and Bongripper split LP on April 22.
