Michigan, here's your chance to step on the scale, so to speak.

Health rankings for 82 of Michigan's counties were released on Tuesday with Leelanau leading the pact as the healthiest county and Wayne County coming in last.

"I don't think there were any big surprises," said Amber Myers, health planning and data analyst for the Michigan Department of Community Health.

"Michigan is improving certain health factors, there are health factors that need to be addressed such as adult obesity and physical inactivity," said Myers.

The study, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin, uses several health factors to find the overall health ranking.

The research looks at tobacco and alcohol use, diet and exercise, access to quality of health care, as well as social and economic factors, such as education, employment, income and environmental quality.

Some counties are focusing on areas to improve. For example, Myers said Muskegon County is focusing on obesity and smoking with a One in 21 health initiative.

Next year, Myers said they are expecting to see the county rise in the rankings.

The study, however, does not look at the state as a whole. America's Health Rankings lists Michigan as the 37th healthiest state in the country. It is also ranked 46th for obesity rates.

Michigan was named the 5th fattest state in the country and in 20 years could have an obesity rate of 60 percent.

Here is a database where you can sort rankings and population percentages for different counties in Michigan. You can also view all the data here as a Microsoft Excel file. Also, look at data for other states at the study's webpage.
