The fellowship is an opportunity for college graduates in the fields of occupational safety and health, engineering, industrial hygiene, and/or or physical/ natural sciences to receive on-the-job training in the fields of occupational safety and health, ergonomics, industrial hygiene and risk management.

“The safest workplaces are those with a culture of safety, and this program will help recent graduates take what they’ve learned and apply it to creating that safety culture in Ohio’s workplaces,” said Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison. “The program gives fellows exposure to safety and health in many different industries and business sizes, preparing them for a wide variety of career choices.”

The positions last two years and are full time with pay and benefits. During the two years, the fellows will work alongside BWC safety, ergonomics and industrial hygiene consultants.

Throughout the program, fellows will participate in onsite safety, ergonomics and industrial hygiene assessments and audits. Other assignments include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Engaging in various research and operational projects;

• Participation in the preparation and instruction of training courses including the development of background materials, training manuals, training exercises and measurement and evaluation tools, and coordination of course instructor development teams; and

• In the second year of their employment, fellows will be required to focus on one of three areas; occupational safety, ergonomics or industrial hygiene.

Through this opportunity, fellows will have access to the collective knowledge and experience of BWC staff in the areas of occupational safety and health, ergonomics and industrial hygiene as it relates to all economic sectors including manufacturing, construction, commercial, service, public works, utilities, agriculture, mining, wholesale and retail and transportation.
