Description: Senior management position with competencies in project management, technical, new business, and management/leadership areas; and demonstrated ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and accountability for achieving results. The director provides day-to-day work and staff supervision, supervises project’s technical implementation, and/or technical assignments, and increasingly contributes to departmental, regional, and corporate strategies, and staff development and supervision.
Duties: Representative Duties and ResponsibilitiesManagement and Leadership
• Creates a productive and motivating work environment for staff by promoting cooperation and teamwork across Programs department, staying abreast of management, leadership, and team building strategies and advocating for them within IMA. Promotes the building of a strong partnership between field and home office based on open exchange.
• Leads documentation and open sharing of best practices and important innovations company-wide, including in the field. Delivers effective oral and written presentations that advance development assistance knowledge and understanding and communicates in a way that persuades and promotes openness and innovation.
• Recommends and/or leads strategic staff recruitment. Supervises, mentors, and evaluates senior advisors/managers, sets clear performance goals and standards, offering regular performance feedback, ensuring effectively-run meetings, and maintaining an open door policy.
• Promotes staff development through coaching, mentoring, and facilitating professional growth opportunities.
• Demonstrates leadership, versatility and integrity.

Project Management
• Develops effective working relationships with donors, counterparts and stakeholders and continually promotes outstanding client service with HQ office staff and field teams.
• Establishes and nurtures collaborative relationships with potential partners, subcontractors, technical specialists, and donor agencies.
• Supervises, develops, and evaluates assigned backstopping teams and sometimes other directors. Ensures staff receives regular constructive performance feedback, prompt resolution of problems, and time and opportunity to grow and develop in key competency areas.
• In collaboration with VP – International Public Health Programs extracts best practices from the field offices to catalogue it into IMA’s best practices.
• Serves as acting VP International Public Health Programs as necessary.

Technical
• Applies in-depth technical expertise to business development efforts, and IMA’s knowledge base. Conceptualizes and leads relevant technical assignments.
• Advances body of knowledge and quality standards in IMA’s primary competence areas. Formulates interdisciplinary approaches to guide business development efforts and technical assignments, and advises others on technical trends and programming priorities.
• Takes leadership role in work of the practices and professional societies, represents company at technical conferences, and prepares or improves technical and development practitioner publications.

New Business Development
• In collaboration with Senior Director, Business Development, undertakes targeted leadership role in proposal development, analyzing and recommending bid decisions, and conceptualizing teaming, technical approaches, and cost strategies to maximize competitive advantage. When required, assumes role of proposal leader or technical writer, providing vision and leadership to proposal team, and mentoring and supervising the application of best practices.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities
The employee will perform other duties and responsibilities as required by the Vice President International Public Health Programs which might include administrative, management, and technical tasks as well as working on special task forces.

• Ability to conceptualize, outline, perform, and direct the research and writing of technical documents (reports, proposals, professional articles).

• Recognized by others as an experienced international development practitioner in a specific technical area. Contributes consistently to mentoring of junior staff.
• Ability to solve complex technical, managerial or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information, resources, well-rounded experience, and knowledge.
• Ability to operate at advanced levels of authority and control significant activities, budgets and resources to produce and take responsibility for results.
• Demonstrated leadership, management, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Education Requirements
• Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred

Language Skills
• Fluency in foreign language preferred.
