Ex-Dolphins QB Pat White agrees to deal with Redskins

• White is expected to sign a contract with the team on Wednesday
• White originally was drafted by the Dolphins in 2009 but didn%27t last long
• White recently worked out at West Virginia%27s pro day%2C where he impressed a few NFL teams

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Pat White's NFL comeback bid has landed him a second chance, this time with the Washington Redskins.

White, 27, will sign a deal with the Redskins on Wednesday after meeting with team officials Tuesday night, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports. That person spoke on the condition of anonymity since a deal had yet to be signed.

White, who worked out for the San Francisco 49ers last Thursday and received interest from the New York Giants plus three other teams, is expected to receive the opportunity he sought after washing out with the Dolphins, who selected him 44th overall in the 2009 draft.

With starter Robert Griffin III continuing his rehabilitation from surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral knee ligament damage suffered during a Jan. 6 playoff loss to Seattle, White is expected to receive a lot of offseason snaps behind backup Kirk Cousins.

White, the former West Virginia quarterback, worked for seven weeks with quarterback guru George Whitfield, Jr. in Southern California before impressing 10 teams during a private workout following the Moutaineers' March 14 pro day. A week later, he worked out for more teams at Virginia Tech's pro day thanks to an invitation from coach Frank Beamer.

White said after his March 14 workout in Morgantown W. Va., "I'm pretty certain I'll be in somebody's uniform next year whether it's the NFL or the Canadian Football League.''

White won that bet on himself. The mobile passer who set an NCAA record for rushing yards by a quarterback while at West Virginia picked an ideal time for his comeback given the league's new read-option craze.

White, 34-8 with four bowl game wins in as many starts at West Virgina, was released by the Dolphins Sept. 4, 2010.
