"Star Wars" star Mark Hamill was just reunited with the lightsaber prop he used in "Return of the Jedi." In a clip from an upcoming episode of his "Pop Culture Quest" web series, Hamill is presented with a blast from his past by Brandon Alinger, Chief Operations Officer of Prop Store LA.

In the clip, Alinger surprises Hamill, and the two then share a bit of its backstory about the prop. Alinger revealed the same prop is also used by Alec Guinness’ Obiwan Kenobi in “A New Hope” as his special effects saber and that it originally contained a motor that caused the specially-coated blade to spin.

Hamill then built on Alinger’s statement and revealed some of the movie magic that went into filming the lightsaber duels in the original “Star Wars” trilogy. He explained that the coating was made from the same material as movie screens and that it reflected light sources on actors’ faces at hundreds of times their original intensity. He added that there were wires running inside the actors’ sleeves and that battery packs were clipped to their belts to achieve this effect.

The entire segment will air on a future episode of "Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest," which airs on the Comic-Con HQ YouTube channel, at an as-yet-unannounced date.
